Sks owners - convince me

For the money you spend on an 858, you can buy a decent quality and more accurate bolt rifle.
Find a nice, accurate SKS "shooter", preferably a laminate refurb, and you have an excellent general purpose field rifle, plinker, and mid-sized game hunting tool.
As for accuracy, remember that while surplus ammo is cheap and fun for plinking, don't judge the accuracy of a rifle that shoots it.
I can consistently achieve 3 inch (or less) groups at 100 meters using only the iron sights -- when using Prvi Partizan 123 grain soft points. This is just as good as any 858, and I prefer the feel of a carbine over an assault-style configuration any day.

Don't think anyone has mentioned that you don't have to take them to a range to shoot them. Have been told that they are easy, fun and cheap to bump fire, although I wouldn't recomend this practice. And last but not least, the empty wooden cases make for cool storage of a variety of things.

I find they're okay just because everything about them is cheap.. but after using corrosive ammo i find it a pain in the arse to clean it so thoroughly. And it still rusted. Took it out once and i have to say its already sort of lost its appeal.

but that is the beauty of it.... you can still sell it for 85% of what you paid for it and the "rental" has only cost you $30-$40 bucks! LOL!

They are one of my favourite guns that I have out of all the more expensive ones that I also own. They are so good I'm thinking of buying a second one!

What is "bump" fire.....? Like slam fire when the firing pin is stuck protruded? If that is the case you had better be ready for it and hang on:eek:
