I was wondering what the improvement in accuracy was for an SKS when peep sights like the Tech-Sights or something similar, were installed.
Assuming the same ammunition.

I didn't exactly measure the size of my groups, but they definitely tightened up when I borrowed an SKS with TS-100, over what I was getting from my stock irons. I'd definitely recommend the upgrade.

But spend the bit extra for the TS-200 and get their rear sight tool too. Hical on CGN in Mission, are importers and sellers.

And the only Canadian source. Yeah, the difference is a little over $10, so you might as well. In the US, I think the difference is greater. With the front sight dialed in, you don't really need to adjust the rear, but it's a nice feature to have. Sure beats using the SKS sight tool lol

Personally I think it is the best and only money you should spend on the SKS. It will greatly improve the grouping. Don't play with the rear adjustment. Adjust the front sight and you are good to go. I also put the smaller front post and it does help.

I failed to mention that I also bought the thinner front TS post.

On this Tula '51 of mine, I also had Tom in Texas do the trigger job. Nothing else is needed.

How much? Did it include springs or just a polish? What about shipping issues going back and forth across the border?

By the way, why in the world didn't the Soviets jump on the peep bandwagon? They're easy enough to manufacture, easier to use both by trained and untrained personnel and it's not like they go out of adjustment on their own. It's not like it's new technology considering the fact that it was thoroughly battle-tested by the time the SKS was put in production.

For me the improvement was huge. With my eyes (old) the open sights were hopeless.

This is a peep cut off a Lee Enfield "L" peep and welded into a slot cut in the receiver. Rock solid. Rifle is zeroed with front sight.

The action cover is made solid by tapping the pin hole and receiver with a 1/4 x20 bolt.

Here are some results with my Chinese SKS with a peep, and my CZ that also got a peep.

The CZ peep is the complete "L" sight off a AR15. A screw through one of the peeps replaces the rivet usually found at the back of the dust cover. The open sight seen in one of the pictures has since been removed, so as to give me a better sight picture.

With this peep i can get the accuracy the rifle is capable of, even with the short sight radius of the 11.5" barreled carbine.

This was shot at 50 yards. IO don't think i would have done much better with a scope.

I have an extra AR-15 sight and I took apart to get the peep. As you stated you put the screw in where the rivet goes in the dustcover. This rivet retains the thing which holds the hammer and recoil springs in place. Is there anything I should consider before doing this modification.

Yes. I did not do this job. A skilled smith did it. He put a small pin through the arm into the cover behind the screw to stop the sight from swiveling around on the screw. I think this extra step is essential.

Thanks Ganderite

I took my rifle to a machine shop this morning and had this modification done.

After completing it I dryfired it and the sight moved. I was like this was a bad idea. But I figured I would leave it in place and use it with my old sights to limit the effect of my asstigmatism. Got to the range and I could no longer use my old sights the new one was way to high for me to get a sight picture with the stock irons. I was starting to really regret this decision. So I tried sighting it in with the new sights, to my surprise the thing grouped better than it did before.

Now does anyone know how to remove the stock sight leaf it is obsuring the new sight picture.

There is a sticky on how to remove the sight. It comes out by pressing something down, as I recall.

i like your tack weld. i might do that too.

The action cover has some wiggle. I mean to take the cover retaining pin out and then tap the channel all the way across. This will lock the cover to the receiver. This works perfectly in the SKS where a 1/4" bolt fits perfectly. Not sure what size bolt would go in the CZ.

In the meantime, I just used some contact cement to glue a piece of 20 thou shim stock to the top of the rear receiver. The cover sits on this shim and fits much tighter.

Foam pipe insulation and electrical tape.

You strike me as a pragmatist by nature Sir.

I like your style!

A fellow could almost put in a rotating disc type sight as on the FAL on the top cover of an SKS. the detent could be down in the top cover somewhere where there is a lot of steel. Working out the math for the centre height of the holes would be interesting. I guess this is deraling the topic a bit.
