Sks picky with ammo?

I've never has an sks not work with the Tapco mags but I have no exp with the SBI mag cut off mod
I'm guessing that is what the issue is

The only time I had continuous stuck case issues was with an MC-5D . It would rip the case head off brass cased ammo so often it was only good with steel cased.
Same issue with an SKS D but the ammo was american eagle , also known for soft brass.
If I were to use an sks for hunting I would probably dump the powder from some good surplus ammo and reload it with an appropriate powder/bullet combo. Would hate to tear a case head in the field.

Some ideas:
Does the issue happen when you load less than 5 rounds into the magazine?
Does the issue happen when you shoot without the magazine inserted? (i.e. single feeding into the chamber)
If you can reliably reproduce the issue, does the issue still happen if you push the charging handle forward on the last round?
Does the extracted fired case have weird bulging near the case head?

My suspicion is that your rifle had marginal headsapce. The difference in last round is that it does not have another round in the mag pushing the bottom of the bolt. This could change the headspace into problemetic territory. Best way to tell is borrow a set of headspace gauges (you want to usethe field gauge) and confirm.

Again, Did you check with SKSboards .com ?? There's a current thread (this month) that's a very similar topic. On this, many comments are directed to cleaning, but the most recent post (7/19/21) has another option for solution. I've been on that board for years and found lots of useful info.

If it has a modified, after market magazine, that will be your issue. Possibly the way the mag is pinned is causing the follower to drag on the last case coming out, slowing it enough that it won't clear. Try a factory part (magazine assembly) and see if that cures the problem. Back when we could load as many rounds as we wanted into our magazines, virtually no one used Tapco mags, 30 rounds with failures doesn't beat 10 for sure, now Tapco mags make even less sense.
