Let's quantify this once and for all.

Is the SKS a good rifle/carbine or junk?

No invectives, insults or otherwise please.

Definitions as requested:

Good: Suits my needs and the expected uses for the rifle.

Junk: Does not suit my needs and the expected uses for the rifle.

Ok, if there were only a few ever made and they were worth a lot of money to colectors we would never hear the end of how simple and reliable they were. Everyone would want one.

Because they are only 150 bucks and everyone has one suddenly they are junk not worth owning.

Everyone should have at least one SKS. At the end of the world you have a dead simple to operate, reliable, cheap to shoot carbine. And hey, should you run out of ammo you can always bayo things. It really doesn't get any simpler then the SKS, and at $150 they are a steal.

I actually like mine and its good for whats i use it for,Shoots a 3 inch group at 100 yds (my 30/30 win 94 only gets 4 inch groups)Its cheap to shoot lots .Not many people buy 1000 rounds for their 30-06 or 243 win to use at the range.

Its fast for 5 shots and will kill a coyote at 100 yards. :) If you want to snipe farther than that use a more accurate bolt gun in a decent cartridge designed for long range shooting.

I'm not going to shoot a moose with it but i wouldnt shoot a moose or small deer with my BOW at 100 yards either.
Just use some common sense guys:runaway:

The downside is you not going to buy a box of 20 cartridges and brag how it will last you for the next decade after you use one shot to sight in the rifle.

Please define: "junk" and "good". If there are also categories such as "very good" and "excellent", please define them as well.
