Hey boys,
Im a bolt action rifle guy but my friends keep telling me to get a SKS. I dont know alot about these except that there are Chinese and are very resonable price wise. Should I get one and why??:)

Thanks!

Considering you can buy one for $150 and the ammo is cheap, why the heck not?

I own the chinese one but I just recently bought a yugo sks. With the yugo you can turn of the gas valve so you can use it like a bolt action or turn it on to blast with.Either one is great but I would spend the xtra for a yugo.

I see this thread becoming ugly!

Answer is Yes, get one, then get another. Cheap ammo, cheap gun, fun factor of 10, reliability of 10, lots of parts, lots of dress up gear, low recoil, small length of pull for the wife and kids, easy to maintain (for me it is, want hard, try an SVT40!).

Fire away!

My Chinese SKS

feels "cheap"
is not refined
has terrible finish...

...And I love it :D

The Yugoslav made ones are better. Well worth the extra money.

Everyone needs an SKS.

I don't understand the anti-sks attitude around here. Sure they're not particularly accurate, but that's NOT THE POINT. They're accurate enough. But they're cheap to buy & feed. It's like a 22. You need one, even if you don't.

Depends on what you expect out of it .
Personally , I think I need one , and enjoy it .
It has replaced my .22 plinker , about the same price to feed but more bang .
It's not a lot of things , but if your the type who considers taking 5 to 6 hundred rounds to go shooting isn't to many . Then this is your gun .
Try one out and if you don't like it put it up on the EE .
Seems they sell for more there than in stores

Where exactly are you getting 7.62x39 at price comparable to .22?

Even with a create deal it's more like 9mm price.

I just paid 159.99 for mine plus tax plus shipping.
My crate of ammo was 250 cause of shipping.
Its South African ammo which is better than most.

Alot here keep saying the ammo is Cheep anyone care to say how much a box of 50 rds is :)

Well I just bought 460 rounds of Norinco Silver box of a local guy who just sold his SKS, and paid $60.00 for the ammo. That works out to approx: 7 and a half cents per shot. Btw one box of 20 rnds was Remington hunting ammo in 7.62. :)

And I just bought another 7 - 20 rnd boxes of czech ammo (on chargers) for $5 bucks a box. :D

That's ammo I don't have to worry about reclaiming the brass for reloading...just let it lie there in the dirt, and pave over it. :D

Meanwhile my .303 P14 is over a $1 per shot store bought, and 50-75 cents to Reload myself (that is when I can find the reloading supplies for this caliber locally).

And don't even talk to me about 6.5X55 Swedish ammo...I can't even find brass for it here on Vancouver Island.

Anyway I digress again... :D

So Yes get an SKS, and if you find a deal on one let me know, my wife is tired of me wearing my SKS bandolier around the house. :D
