SKS question, should I get one?

My Chinese SKS

feels "cheap"
is not refined
has terrible finish...

...And I love it :D

X2! ;)

Mine's an ugly bugger but I love it. I just bought a second one! Cheap ammo. Not terribly accurate but not accurately terrible. You have to get a feel for them. I did as soon as I picked mine up. Lot's of fun, imo.

There are higher quality SKS' : Yugos, Russians, Romanians and Albanians.

(Those countries also produce fine looking women...) :D

edit: Hey, I'll take a fine looking woman and ugly gun over the opposite any day... :D

just curious, what size box/crate is needed for 20K rounds of 7.62X39 and how much does it weigh?
17 cases of 1120 rounds, $99/per case plus GST and shipping from BC to PEI
About 60lbs per case i am told... that's just over 1000 lbs, when it arrived, I put 7 cases in the back of my Grand Vitara... it was riding LOWWWW

Canada Ammo... 10 case discount!!! Too bad they are out of stock

Its South African ammo which is better than most.

Is that the NGA ammo?
Where are you finding it? last i heard they couldn't import in from shouth africa any more...
How do i get some?

My my my, where do I begin...

Short answer is yes.

Long answer is, uh....yes :D

Things to stay watch for when shopping for SKS's:
1) pinned barrels, identifiable by the shape of the barrel lug where it enters the reciever. Pinned ones are just a straight cylinder shaped lug, threaded ones have a curvy-wonky lookin' barrel nut with two flat sides on 'em.
2) if the rifle is used, take the gas tube off and look for rust in the gas tube and gas port on the barrel, this will tell you what the previous owner's cleaning habits were like. The gas tube is removed by rotating the catch on the right side of the rear sight upwards about 45 degrees. The gas tube can then be lifted out. Watch that the gas piston doesn't fall out! This will also allow you to get a good look at the barrel joint type to determine if it's pinned or not.

Buy one.
I have had MANY over the years, and the only one I kept was a Yugo. To me, the small increase in price ($150 or so) bought a much more solid and refined rifle. Your mileage may vary though.

I don't like them at all. BUT... what the hell does that matter when it comes to YOUR purchase!? If they 'float yer boat' go grab one and thousands of rds with the $$$ you saved. I hear the Yugo version is much better than the chinese sks.

To bad there are not more options when it comes to inexpensive (PC for cheap) guns in a decent caliber.

Good luck!
