SKS question

Who in Greater Vancouver could fit a bolt - do you guys have any recommendations? I called Lever and they surprised me by telling that you actually do not need to check headspace, thus prompting this thread...

Lever told you not to check headspacing if swapping bolts? WOW just WOW

Why do you want to switch bolts?

I have a tiny crack in it and want to have a "backup" bolt just in case. Here, will try to upload the picture.

So who in the area can do it then?

Well Brownells has headspaces gauges for 7.62x39 "you just need the NOGO gauge"

I have some at work but am in Petawawa

Thank you for confirming my thoughts on Lever's advise, Dsiwy - highly appreciated.

I will call other local stores - not sure if I should buy a gauge for one time thing. Hopefully Reliable will have it or somebody else.

Regards.

The "Crack" if it is a crack is not on a stress point so not safety issue. Does the "crack" go through both sides of the metal????? It really looks like a deep scratch from the pic.

I would besure it really is a crack before spending any cash ;)

it is not a very good picture - it is in fact a crack. It is right where the bolt carrier holds the bolt and on one side of the bolt only. Probably a millimeter deep and hair wide.

If the "crack" is on the edge and its not on both sides on the edge then its a scratch.
Not saying wrong just dont want your spending cash for nothing lol.

It also seems very straight and clean for a crack too

Lever has head space gauges. They have been swapping SKS bolts for years.

That what they told me today over the phone. Called yesterday asking if they can fit one, they told that they do not have a gunsmith there and they have to get back to me on this. Called me today about noon saying that I can just put the bolt in and bob's my uncle.

I would much rather have it not to explode in my face then to sue them after. Perhaps their gunsmith was on vacation for thanksgiving and the sales guy just decided to BS me to make a sale without considering the consequenses.
