SKS Question!

I'm pretty certain that chrome lining started out partway through 1951 and all were chrome lined in 52 plus. It's possible that with continued use the chrome lining has worn away entirely.

I'm no expert by any means but thread after thread in this forum has taught me that all ruski sks's were chromed starting midway through 51. Maybe you have a yugo? Try posting some pics.

Not to mention that the Russians/Soviets provided hundreds of thousands if not millions of SKS's to any group which had the slightest inclination towards communism, including barely-out-of-the-stone-age African tribes...

Those rifles are still out there, and they still go bang when you pull the trigger. They may not be "pretty" anymore, but they still work, some may have not been cleaned in decades.

I don't know if your average Soviet conscript soldier took all the care and pride in his weapon that your average CF guy does. He probably did enough to keep his superior from b*tching at him, and that's about it. Im sure, one of the reasons they run Mosins, SKS', and AKs. (Not to mention the expense factor)
