Sorry if I jacked someones thread.

What is the longest range anyone has shot an SKS out out to, out of curiosity. Please add pics of the set-ups.

I am thinking of getting one and no they arnt known for accuracy but am curious of what they can do.
 
This isn't impressive or anything but I've been hitting an 18" x 24" steel plate at 250 meters with stock iron sights and surplus ammo. Haven't tried farther yet.

sounds reasonable to me generaly hit a 12" steel disc at 165 yards (5 for 5 is not uncommon) with the irons and milsurp ammo
Your only out another 110 yards and on a target quite a bit bigger
 
I shot a coyotes at over 400m.... got him on the 4th shot.

Bang! "low to the rear", Bang "low to the rear, Bang! "to the rear" BANG! "womp, cyote rolling the snow" to bad the bugger crawled an acreages barn not far away before I waded out to were I shot him in the snow covered field. acreage owner called me a puppy killer and wouldn't let me get him.
 
I have personally witnessed a friend make multiple hits on a 30" gong at 550 yards with millsurp ammo. Mind you it was a 1 in 6 or 7 ratio once he made his first hit. Set his ladder sights at 500 and he was making hits. I would not have believed him if I did not hear the gong ring myself.
 
500m on a silhouette range at the rams. Was able to knock them over about 50% of the shots but I had to hit them in the upper portion of the body or they didn't fall over due to lack of impact at that range.

They can shoot much better as a bolt action rifle. Surprise surprise:D

Taking range into account, our targets are about the same size. Yours is 6.9 moa at 165 yards and mine is 6.3 moa at 250 meters.
 
We had some fun last time out shooting at chas shooting steel at 300 standing offhand. Now that is tricky. Not going to brag about a hit count but we all hit steel and were happy.
 
After a shot or two to figure out the sight picture, a friend of mine was able to consistently hit our club's 200m gong on every shot from the offhand position. I find achieving that rather challenging and still miss a lot, but at least I know that it's the shooter and not the rifle that's at fault. At least with an SKS I can afford to practice to get to that level, which should translate to better shooting with all of my rifles.
