SKS re-barrel to 350 legend

That does because I wasn't sure about the bolt face on the SKS. The 350 Legend works with the AR 15 bolt, it is basically a trimmed back straight walled 5.56 case. So if a SKS bolt would work on a 5.56 case then it should work. Does this sound right?

Some US states have a deer season that allows you to use any rifle chambered for a straight wall case. The 350 Legend was developed so people could hunt with an AR-15 during those seasons. That is the only real intended purpose for this cartridge. As Tiriaq mentioned, the SKS / 7.62x39 bolt face is larger and will not work with the 5.56 /223 case head.

What about 9x39? Assuming you can find dies and bullets, brass should be easy enough to make from 7.62x39. I wonder if standard 9.3mm (.366 dia) bullets would work (list diameter on the 9x39 bullets is 3.64mm for SP-5 and 3.65 for SP-6 cartridges). If you had the barrel made from a blank for a 9.3mm cartridge and had Hornady make a custom set of dies I can see it working just fine even though it might technically be considered a Wildcat.

there are a few wildcats made from the x39 case but most I can find are discussions on wildcat bolt guns
One guy made what he ended up calling the 40 smith and russian LOL
Uses a 10mm pistol bullet in a necked out x39 case and getting velocities in the 2300 to 2500 fps with a 165gr sierra if I recall correctly
I still wonder though.... why would the 6.5 Grendel not work?
Brass is available now so reloading to find the right bullet would be easily done and opens up the options.
even necking down to a 243 or 284/7mm might be interesting.
too bad sks rifles aren't 199 anymore..... I'd take on one of these projects just for fun

yes, DIY for sure other than to get a barrel spun and pre-chambered

be a costly endeavor...... probably a 800 to 1000 dollar DIY would be my guess. Less if you have a lathe and mill/drill to make the barrel yourself from an existing barrel

You're still going to have an SKS, you'll just have spent a lot of time and money on making it no more accurate but cost more per round to do so.
Put any 7.62x39 ammo through an SKS and you get nearly uniform accuracy. Put them through a CZ527 or 7.62x39 and things change drastically. It's not the ammo that's the issue it's the rifle.

This caliber is for smooth bore guns if I'm not mistaken. Something about a stupid rule in Russia about rifled
barreled firearms. So the .366 TKM was born.
5.45x39 should be a more straightwall case if the difference in the AK-47 and AK-74 magazines are anything to go by.
