I don't like the notch in the rear sight leaf it seems too small and hard to look through. I've been thinking about adding a little more definition to it. Maybe just square out the V shape. Has anyone out there done this?

I can only find one that attaches to the rear of the receiver. Isn't there anything that can clip into where the original sight leaf does? The one being sold from a location that will remain nameless is too expensive. I can buy a red dot for half the price. And I have no desire to replace the front sight. Just the rear sight leaf. I can't believe no one has made a ring sight that clips into the original leaf spring.

Scratch that, I see they have been made. Now if I could just find links to where I can order one... for a price that's logical... just because I want something doesn't mean I want my anus to bleed after getting screwed. I'd still like to be able to walk after. Some things are worth the pain but this is not quite one of them.

There is the Tech Sight version that attaches to the rear take down pin. No idea about price.

The Williams one fits on to and replaces the existing rear sight leaf. A dowel pin and the sight comes off and the new one goes on and the dowel pin slips in.
Should be about $40 or so and the maker ships it to Canada from his place in Michigan.

here's a simple mod i did that turned my sks sight into a peep sight ...the U in the rear sight coincided exactly with the circle of the front sight protector so as long as those two were concentric the top of the post was on target! ...works VERY well and is fast and is FREE to do

^Great idea. I like the tritium sights on the 59/66 SKS. Too bad the tritium in those sights has mainly decayed to the point where they are no longer useful. As far as I can tell, there is no suitable fibre optic sight sets for the SKS that mimics the Yugo 59/66 tritium sight sets. What is commercially available for the SKS is less than ideal imo.

I turned my front sight post down to give more of a reveal between the front and rear sights.
I used a spare post just in case I buggered it up. Carefully place post, threads into the chuck, in a drill press and snug the chuck.
At slow speed make sure the post turns evenly and centered.
Using a fine bastard file, run the file back and forth as the post turns.
Clean it up and apply flat black paint to finish. Went from near 2mm post to 1.5mm.

Sights are critical to a gun, which is why I sold my SKS. The stock sight was just horrible. The blade rear sight was slow and difficult to use compared to modern blade rear sights. I did change to a Williams firesight which was much better, but the front sight protector overlapped the viewing area which threw off the sight picture. Shooting guns is supposed to be an enjoyable luxury, not an exercise in frustration. Why go into "track racing" and compete with a Honda Civic? You're just going to be frustrated by the limitations IMO. Then again, many people inexplicably take Civics around a race track, just like they shoot SKSs I suppose.

Double the price it should be though. It should be about $50, not $100...

Especially when I can put my nice little $50 Browning reflex red dot back on for free. But I just like iron sights and using the stripper clips. My Kwik rail and red dot I'm going to save for my next SKS.
