Hey gun nuts; Dumb questions 101. I just received my new/old sks {chinese} and have some questions I hope you can help!?
Dumb question #1: the rear sight is graduated, I don't think its yards or meters as it goes from D by 1's to 10. Can any one enlighten me as to what the D stands for{ I'm really going to feel dumb if it means down:redface:} and how the elevation sight works?

Dumb question #2:Why isn't there any chinese characters{lettering} on the gun after the weird triangle?

Dumb question #3: Why isn't the caliber {7.62} and other info stamped on the barrel?

Dumb question #4: What is the hard wood that they made the stock out of and is it recommended to sand off the crap varnish and refinish or leave well enough alone? G:

I refinished my stock, feels nicer and looks nicer. No reason other then that.

It does nto state 762x39 or have chinese characters because it is a military produced rifle, not originally intended for civilian use.

And Curtton stated in another post that the wood "is called "catalpa" and it doesnt split at the grip. "

The sights are graduated to 1000 meters in 100 meters increments. The D is the battle setting, 300 meters.

thanks guys, the battle setting is cool info....currently trying to clean the cosmo/earwax from the gun....can't believe the s**t coming out of the bolt/firing pin. Someone had told me their was a spare firing pin in the cleaning kit...clearly this is incorrect. Is the pin the disassembly tool or something else?

the pin can be inserted through the rod to act as a handle and can also be used ti unlock the gas piston lever or push on the trigger mech release tab.
