Sks - rear sight rotated on barrel

Leaf is off and things look better. Can't see any reason the leaf is the problem, pins are square when sitting on my wet stone.

Sight is adjusted far left, and by the markings, was sighted that way at the factory. Other than the extreme adjustment, all appears square with the front sight.

Tried putting the leaf in upside down (it fits) and still had the same angle. So not the leaf or its pins, the holes the pins click into off centre? Taking the slide adjusters off seemed to improve it but may be just not as noticeable without another plane.

Perhaps there is a bit of warpage in one of the components of the sight, which should be expected of an SKS. This thread has given me an excuse
to scrutinize the sights on all of my SKS today and all of them are slightly different in manufacture and condition. I am also surprised at how your
photos give me an ability to see the sights with both of them in focus rather than how I see them in real life, which is, only one of them in focus at a time.
That will be happening because of my ''old eyes'' but it means that, for all I know, all my SKS sights are a little off like yours is. They shoot fine, so I'm happy.

Still can't pinpoint exactly where the sights are off so all that's left is to shoot it. Pic is of the rusty sear I mentioned. Passed the file over it a couple times just so you can see how deep it was pitted. Trigger was understandably harsh as the hammer surface was the same. It was a real pain taking it down and then making other adjustments so everything worked properly. Ready for the range.

When I cut my barrel down to 18.6" I used the rear sight as a alignment tool. Run a string from the v in the rear sight , down the center of the rear sight and aligned the front sight with it. It came out very close.
Try the string thing...and see where you front sight ends up....Worth a shot :)
It looks like the whole front sight "housing" is to the left, not just the sight pin.

Great idea! Got out the fish line and determined that the front sight mount is vertical and centred. The sight post is left of centre. Something has to be off at the rear, or it is nowhere near sighted in. But the stamps on the front post indicate it was once sighted in like this.

Finally able to borrow a proper bore sight. Something definitely wrong with the rear leaf. Tried one from a different gun, same year, unref, and instantly level. Also the front sight was way off, ended up much closer to centre using the bore sight. Guess I'm looking for a rear leaf.

Sear is now as it should be. Took off enough to get back to smooth, positive engagement without changing geometry or taking out much creep. Hammer test passed. I think that side just missed getting the Cosmo many years ago.

Worst case scenario just buy a new rear sight, the difference will likely move your front post closer to the middle and you're only out $15 for the new rear one.
As a conclusion to this thread, this was the solution. The rear sight mounting pins were badly off centre giving the illusion that the mount itself was off. A bit of file work on the top of one pin has it perfectly level now. And I have an extra leaf to experiment with.

Just as a P.S. to the thread, lever arms or hical could most likely send you a new sear for cheap. Lever is actually pretty good to deal with when it comes to sks parts.
