SkS red dot recommendations...

The fine folks at Wanstalls have the trs-25 for $120 shipped , I'm not sure how it would hold up to the sks but it's a decent red-dot

whats the advantage over something like the Bushnell First Strike like this unit:

Been looking at these also. Spent some time watching / reading reviews and while they hold up well the most common complaint is the "auto brightness" feature. In extreme low-light / no light situations the dot basically either disappears, or shuts off. The unit isn't equipped with an on-off switch. It's turned off by replacing the cover (in essence simulating no light). Not that big a deal I guess for almost all "normal" situations, but in the less than politically correct discussion about defensive use, a dot that doesn't work in low / no light isn't ideal (to say the least).

FWIW.

Interesting! Thanks did not know that!

Holosun is pretty new on my radar. How is it when it comes to reliability/durability? Is the battery life really as advertised? Is the dot crisp or blurry? Thinking of replacing my trs-25 with one.

A $5 bottle of Testors model paint in your favorite day glow color. Cave man red dot - works great on pretty much any Soviet style sights.

"Cave Man Red Dot" - requires no batteries. Works.

This is the only demo video I could find, but I've seen others, and the method written up in other places.
