hey guys i installed a bctactical rear sight scout mount on my sks, i went to put on the red dot sight but it seems the screw that tightens mount to the rail is a couple mm too short and wont bite, think a gun store might sell me a longer screw?

huh?
Got pic's?
Sounds wierd. Are you tring to say that your red dot dosn't fit on the rail? Or is the rail can't be mounted to your rifle? Or that the screw dosn't tighten up on the red dot?

sorry bout confusion

im new to this so bear with me please haha, im having trouble with the screw that connects the scope to rail, i think they call them weaver style mounts and when i tighten screw it doesnt seem to catch and scope just falls off rail and screw just slides out when i turn gun onto its side, im gonna go to Rona tommorow and see if they have similar size screw and threads and get one 3-4mm longer.

im sorry but i cant understand your problem , we need pics .

i dont see how a red dot could fall off the rail even when it sits on the rail loosely after tightening.

and which red dot are you using ?

Thats a bit strange, which red dot and mount are you using? If I'm reading right, the cross bolt is too short? Make sure everything is lined up properly so your not creating excess tolerance. Other than that it sounds like your mount or its bolt is out of spec. Taking it back for a replacement would probably be easiest as it will be a fine thread bolt and possibly difficult to match up. Are we getting closer?

thanks supernova

thanks supernova for ur answer and yes that is the problem, the "crossbolt" is too short, and to answer the other guys question i think its a no name red dot scope. Im not gonna name where i got it from because it will bring undue "bad press" tp someone that does not deserve it...but thanks everyone for your help i will call the store i got it from, i am in no way blaming manufacturer..just myself haha

PS:i put the crossbolt on a kitchen counter and let it roll, u can tell its bent and thats why its not catching, looks like i just need to get new bolt from store

...so i exchanged for a new red dot scope and i mounted it on, when u wiggle it side to side it is super tight but when u wiggle it front to back it seems to have a slight wiggle?slack to it, is that normal. im not at home rightnow but i will post pic

If you mount it to the dust cap over the bolt at the rear of the action it will be always loose as the dust cap is not rigid

The B.C. Tactical mount hes using replaces the rear sight leaf. Its solid. Back to the OP the wiggle you described will most likely result in mostly horizontal stringing caused by the sight moving around so try tightening a bit more being careful not to strip it. I mounted a cheap ebay knock-off aimpoint micro t-1 to mine and had to file the block that the crossbolt threads into as it was bottoming out before snugging the sight down. Let us know how it goes

hey guys thanks for your help and sugestions, im very embarrased to say all i had to do was tighten a bit more and the problem seems to have been fixed. Im kinda known to strip threads and crack all sorts of stuff on my dirtbike so i was being over cautious.

It takes time to get used to it, but eventually you'll be able to feel the threads stretching right before they strip. Be sure to use blue loctite to keep it from coming loose while shooting.
