SKS reliability???

99% +/- .99%

As reliable as they come. Just keep the bolt assembly/ fireing pin well cleaned or it might be too reliable.

The answer is....42 :D

Seriously, they're very reliable. I've never had a problem with mine, round count is well over 500 (lost track a while ago, probably getting close to 1000 by now). The biggest hassle is the cleaning regimen for corrosive ammo, but even then these rifles are so tough that you probably won't have a problem. You should get one!

FYI, SIR currently has chinese type 56 SKS's going for $159.99, but they're going fast!! I ordered one myself (about a week ago) and it just arrived, it's a factory 26 model with threaded barrel, all numbers matching and 100% bluing everywhere (looks to be unfired!!!). Hope that helps!!

My Norc SKS work all the time, trigger is crap but it works. Only one time had an issue was when I was shooting with someone and they didn't pull back and release the Bolt, they followed it forward with their hand, so it didn't lock to the Reciever right and it wouldn't fire. All it needed was a Re-cocking and good to go.

I love my SKS

I've fired 1000's of rounds through my Chinese SKS.

The only jam I can remember was after a string of 200 rounds in the boiling heat of Arizona in July and like an idiot, I was shooting it one handed.

It stove piped 1 round.

I think it was me and not the SKS! :)

I fired a whole crate (1500 rounds) through a SKS without cleaning it..I think I swabbed out the bore once, that is it.

Still fed and went bang, and the accuracy was abotu the same the whole time. Mediocre accuracy, but consistent.:)

My sons has 3,000 rounds of Norinco through it over 3 years and has never been cleaned . No failures so far . When it gives up , we'll clean it and purchase any parts necessary . Where can i find more Norinco ?

My SKS-D's been through probably a full 1000 rounds since I got it, has jammed up partway through cycling a new round into the chamber a few times, just requires the bolt to be pulled back and let go.

There are about 500 rounds (corrosive czech/WOLF) through my Norc that I know about (probably alot more, since it was made in the 70's :)) and i personally havn't had 1 FTF or FTE. Its a great little gun and I think it would be an excellent choice for a SHTF gun.

The only difference with the D is the reliability of the removeable mag. The carbine is the same except the mag and mag well. If your mag works then it will go bang every time too. With our goofy mag cap laws, a thirty rounder is just for looks anyways. So I bought one.

Consider that the SKS is a russian design intended to be issued to someone just off the farm or the rice paddy. It had to be simple and reliable since the person using it was not going to clean it very often if at all and would abuse the living daylights out of it.:D

You might want to remember that while the bore may be chrome plated, the gas cylinder IS NOT
