Just received a removable clip for my standard SKS from Marstar.

After shooting the gun I ran into problems with the last shell just kincking out by its self before the bolt closed and after the last shot problems with the bolt not staying open.

Just checking to see if others have tried these and have had success or not :)

you wanna describe what type of detachable mag you bot or post a pic? cos there are metal and plastics ones, 5 rds or bigger pinned ones.

Generally speaking, most of the aftermarket magas for a Standard SKS are junk. the lips usually are not strong enough to hold the ammo in for very long. Some folks have had success with the polymer ones but the pot-metal mags seem to be crap 99% of the time. The reason the bolt doesn't lock back is because the follower on the mag is AK-style and doesn't lift up the little tab that holds the action open like in the original mag

I agree with slicknicks observation.

It's real hit and miss with the metal detach mags.
IMHO nothing beats the original non-detach mag.

Send the mag back to Marstar, tell them it is crap, and you want your money back.

It is a metal 5 rounder.

I have taken the mag apart and adjusted(bent) the spring inside the mag and have rectified the issues temp for now.

Is there anyone out there that has spent the time and money on a mod got a AK clip??

I know the SKS D has a detachable but just curious.

i agree with slicknick and calum about the metal mag.

i have a john mason 5 rd metal mag, and i do experience occasional jamming, be as it may, i like using a detachable mag plus i think they look cool  , IMHO.

i havent spend too much time in trying to correct the problem but i noticed the problem isnt in the lips as i can easily bend and file them, the main problem is in the plastic follower, poorly designed and the plastic is way too soft to do a proper job. i may mod a metal follower for it.

btw, you will notice the back end of the plastic follower is too small to push up on the bolt hold, another flaw.

i also have a plastic mag, actually it isnt made of plastic, its made of nylon/fiberglass, its a zytel 5 rd mag, it isnt as long as the metal.... it perform flawlessly, no jamming, altho i cant vouch for the durability long term.

I have the john mason mag.

When you look at the platic follower at the front it is very high. I had problems with it snaging on the reciever and other strang issues. This was preventing the rear of the follower from hitting the bolt hold open catch.

I also had a problem with the plastic follower moving forward with I am assuming from the friction of the shell moving forward.

What I did was take the base of the mag off and took the spring out. I manipulated the spring untill the front of the plastic follower was alot lower and the rear was as high as possible.

This fixed the bolt staying open but it did interduce an odd jamming. I will need to tinker some more :)

I had a john mason. looked cool. jamed like crazy. I tinkered with it and it worked flawlessly but the last round alway jams and points up. one day i forgot and left the mag on my tire and i drove over it. It can be bent back but what a waste of time. The 5 rounder plastic one is best. I used it for hunting. The best and most reliable mag is the stock- fixed mag. i grinded it down so it became detachable.

just thought of something .... did you have to shave wood from the inside of the mag well ? cos i did, the john mason mag was too wide, couldnt get it in without shaving, that also explain why the round below the top round flops loose.

ok and can we get a 20 rounds or 30? or its illegal?
but if i modify it can it become legal?

no, you can not import the 20 or 30 rd mags from the US or any sks mag more than 5, not legal , they have to be mod before crossing the border.
