Comrades,

Looking for a slip on or screw on rubber butt pad for my Chinese SKS.
Doesn't have to be expensive. It's not for recoil purposes (SKS recoil is below negligible).
I'm looking for grip/tack when shouldered and adding an inch or two to length of pull
What do you all recomend? What's available these days for the old bastard?
Seems all that's currently on the interwebs is the UTG pad

I use one of those cheap ebay slip on ones and it works fine although they require a spacer inside to fit right. Cardboard works nicely.

www.alliedarms.ca has two models. Pricey at $55 and $45.
I use the UTG 1" recoil pad and it works well for me. I have a spare UTG 1" thick pad that you can have for free if you want to try it. Just let me know your mailing address.

I have a Pachmayr decelerator slip on here you can have, I dont use it anymore. Ill go check to see if it fits the SKS.

If you can find the surplus chicom ones they are the best option, forum member mobular was selling them but I think he sold out awhile ago. I just sold my spare one on the ee, they fit perfectly and add an extra inch of length. They are the best looking, they don’t look like a rubber boot like the slip on ones do.

Ha!
I saw a few images of those on Google but could not find a) one for sale or b) what it actually was
I'm not too concerned about looks. I'm a function over form type of guy.
I rolled the dice on a 1" slip on UTG sks pad off amazon.
Going to bore a hole in it so I can still access the cleaning kit.
Will report back

1' or 2" option. I use the 1" and installs with the original butt plate screws. I imagine the 2" one does as well.

I bought one of those and took it off last year when I noticed some rust. It created a moisture pocket btw the butt pad and the screws holding the plate and rubber butt pad in place. The same company made a recoil pad for the Mosin as well. Don't recommend that one either as it somehow increased the sense of recoil by a painful portion.

I just use a slip on pad if kids are going to be shooting. Currently I have an Allen Slip on that fits the smaller stocks and a Shooters friend that fits larger stocks if required. Then I just take them off afterwards.

I have never had an issue with them. Put a bit of dielectric grease on the screws first. Can't see it being any different than any other screw on rubber butt pad. Just take preventative maintenance measures. As far as felt recoil the SKS has none to speak of. It is not a Mosin.

Sounds something like what happened to the "No.5 Jungle Carbines", where what was originally thought of as "fitted, soft rubber butt pads" eventually not only hardened, but also focussed recoil into a small area of one's shoulder... :yingyang:

#### me that is number 1 spot by a mile THE worst butt pad ever put on a gun.
What in the actual #### were they thinking when they designed that torture device?
You know what would have been better than that? Nothing. The wood stock with nothing on it would not be as brutal to fire as a 1" wide concentrated piece of rock hard plastic/rubber hahaha
I fire mine in the summer with a towel wrapped around my shoulder so it doesn't separate my arm from my body.

So anyhow UTG deluxe came in.
20 bucks after shipping.
You have to remove the steel plate and spring cover but its a nice snug fit. Used original mounting screws.
It's well made, feels great. Looks sharp. Excellent grip in the shoulder and the LOP increase makes it feel like a whole new rifle.

Oh yeah if anyone says SKS cant shoot it's because they never put tech peep sights on one and did a proper really good home trigger job on one.
10 rounds chinese surplus at 100 meters prone shooting off a bag
Don't mind the 223 groups from my 700 below. I'm no scoped rifle sniper :p
