I'm sure there are many threads asking this same question, but i'm picking up an sks soon. have the option of going russian or chinese. most people have told me to go russian but i feel much better with the answers i will get on here. Plan to upgrade with tapco stock, rails, red dot, etc. for a tacticool shooter. what should i do?

Buy a used SKS with all the crap on it already to save some cash. Otherwise buy Russian and save the stock in a closet and mod it out, then within a year sell the tacticrap on the EE and put the nice Russian wood back on it.

If you are planning any permanent mods to the gun (non-reversible), then buy a Chinese one. :)

Cheers,

Go with a russian:D Before buying lot of stuff, shoot it bone stock and if you want to tacticool it, keep all yours originals parts. Personnally, i'm not a fan of tacticool stuff because i think that beside the look, didn't improve the rifle and many tacticooled sks and up on the EE. Its just my opinion, if you want to mod, do it but first, take time to enjoy the sks in its original form:)

Buy the rifle of your choice, and pick up extra ammo instead of buying crap that improves the looks, yet does not improve the rifle. Looks does not hit the target, ammunition does.

Won't be stopping at one sks. I have put many a 7.62 down the barrel and absolutely love them. just don't own any. plan on keeping the origional furniture as well, just want something that's fun to shoot. I'll probabally just buy russian and keep it origional, then save the mods for a chineese down the road.

There is nothing wrong with the military chicom SKS, the trick is to know the difference between the good military ones and the junk commercial ones.

the russian and chinese sks's are both pretty damn functional, so don't lose any sleep over that. I bought a chinese one and she is a beast.

When you get it, take it out and use it for awhile with its original bits and pieces, then decide after that whether you still want to tacticalize it. you may decide you like it just as she is.

have a blast!!

Noob question, What is EE?? Can you post a link.

I like the fit and finish of the Russian better, but I will say that my Norinco SKS is a very impressive shooter.

Now,that sounds like a good plan! Really!

Two different Chinese SKS rifles. There's the commercial ones, and the Military Surplus. Milsurp ones are generally fine, and commercial ones usually have more issues. Not all of them, but a few.

really? crappy tire has sks'? not the one in my town only air rifles and ammo.

mine does!!!!!!!! The one in belleville brought on a guy who is very gun savy and made the push to start selling guns. they make sales almost every day. prices aren't bad either they are actually putting quinte outdoor sports down the pipe. as for sks they have all kinds, all russian refurb and non-refurb.
