After some lost emails I finally got a response from S.I.R about the defective SKS I bought from them. Looks like they are going to step up to the plate on this, and Frank Janzen form SIR
left me a message on my phone today stating they would take back the SKS under warranty. I'm going to call him tomorrow to get the exact details. :D

Glad to hear it HeavyBullet. It is never a good thing for any of us to pay a significant amount of money and get a dud. Anyway SIR would not be in business long if they hadn't dealt with you fairly. As it is I feel they ought to give you a 25% discount on your next purchase for the way they treated you.
Will this be your hunting rifle?

LOL ya it was supposed to be, I actually received it the same day I left to go deer hunting. Once I get refunded, I will keep my eye open for another one, maybe here on the EE.

hey!! good to hear from ya.

good idea to get one from a member who already cleaned and tested for ya.

When I buy my SKS, which won't be for a few years, I'll buy brand new from China.

Just seems like the way to go. I'd want to clean it out of the cosmoline myself, so to kinda make it my own...yeah.

No intentions to buy russian though. They're too expensive for what they are. I'll take a Norcheapo anyday.

The finish and fit on Russian version is MUCH better IMHO, but like it matters anyway, unless you collect them.

The Russian and Yugo SKS's are night and day in terms of fit and finish compared to the Chicom ones. Expecially the laminate stocked Russians - they just feel so slim and solid in the hand.
In the end though, they all work about the same unless you get a POS pinned barrel abortion from the bad SIR batch...

Get a CZ858 heavy bullet. They are well built and light. With open sights at 200 yards you will hit a pie plate sized target with all five rounds easily if you are concentrating.
It would be much more pleasant to carry in the bush.
I must say however that I do like the SKS. The chunkiness of it gives me confidence in it's strength. It is a robust rifle.

I got mine from Ardent for 600 if I can remember correctly. It is well worth it but I like the idea of an SKS too. I have a couple of boxes of Czech ammo and an SKS would be nice to partner with one of those wooden boxes. More boxes are needed though. I really like the SKS. Something primemordial about it. That could be the bayonet but I don't think so. It is just the meatiness of it and the simplicity of it like a flint knife. Bloody hell, I just may have to pick one up now. Thanks a lot Heavybullet!

i presume SIR gonna fix that HB's sks and turn around and sell it..... once fixed , then it should be as good as new.

Hey Calum. You wanna go to the range this Sunday? Me and Wally are heading out. You should bring said SKS, and a Chinese one as well. You could show me then the difference in fit and finish. I'll be the judge.

PM if you're down.
