Thanks, i tried and they reluctantly said they would accept it back but only for another in stock sks. I hand selected mine for unfired condition. All the have now is a couple unrestored original very worn tulas. I declined.

Well I would take it up the chain. That has no business being sold.

I have never dealt with a bigger bunch of aholes in my whole life. I asked for store credit and they wont even do that even though the manager said they will ask the supplier for there money back. Funny how they are outraged and want there money back, but tell me to go screw myself.

Why the second thread???

So i took it back and the manager of the firearms looked at it and decided it wasnt safe. Went for a walk and said he would talk to store manager about possible exchange. Waltzed back a while later and brought out another sks. It looked like crap. I told him i hand selected this one and it looked the best and i wznt one of simular quality. He went and got another and told me it was his last one and they were not getting more in. It was a 55 well worn tula with some bbq paint.
I ask for store credit and he refused ssying he was bending the rules even replacing the gun. I told him i would just take mine back and he wouldnt let me, ssying it wasnt safe. I said its my gun and i am leaving with it. He said he could send it back to calgary and get his money back and so i told him i would wait then. Then he said he wouldnt get his money back because there military surplus. I told him i paid for a super grade and he said theres no definition of super grade. I walked out with my gun.

Offered you a replacement of what they had left, which I assume you could have taken apart to see if it was in better condition, and you refused it, deciding to keep this busted up version.

Take it up the chain. A credit would be nice. But they may just replace it with another SKS.

Gottta remember we're dealing with surplus guns here, previous history unknown. Always a pig in a poke. ;)

Grizz

Bottom line on this one though it appears to me this damage happened after it arrived in Canada and most likely after the crate was sent to my local store. Like someone else suggested that maybe someone was trying to fit a high cap mag and was thinking maybe too much metal there.

As far as starting a second thread. I just wanted another opinion on the safety of the gun. Although they didnt make the receiver with less metal in that area, it may not affect the safety of the receiver. I noticed the Chinese SKS simply stick a barrel into the breech and slam a roll pin to hold it together. Also the receiver has a notch within cracking distance of the rollpin. So with knowing that I am assuming that the material removed from my receiver shouldnt cause any issues. Especially since the barrel is threaded in and there lots of thread as well to hold it all together.

Kept it to decide what to do next. I wasnt going to grab a gun that was possibly worse. So I ask a gunsmith if its dangerous. Just deciding if I want to go through the hassle of fighting these jerks or never darkening there doorway again.

It is highly unlikely that an employee at WSS pulled and SKS of the crate, took it apart, laid it into a grinder then re-assembled it and put it back. That's just far-fetched. Likely some Russian bum who was servicing these before they got shipped out did that, knew he f*cked up and just put the thing back together knowing it could never be traced back to him.

While I am not even remotely qualified to offer gunsmith advice - The SKS is overbuilt and can take a lot of abuse. Most of that grinding is on the
receiver, so there should be no worries of breakage with that rifle. Have fun shooting it and never darken that store's doorway again!

^^^^ Exactly WSS employees would not know where to start
