First I was having issues with steel promag magazines which wouldn’t fit inside the stock. Now switched to archangel mags, which fits perfect but the bolt won’t close forward. I have to release the mags, wiggle it out a bit, then the bolt will close. Can someone explain why this bolt won’t cycle like it usually does with original Sks mags? Is it safe to use these mags like this or do I need to make any modifications to the mag ?

I think the issue is the feed lips on the magazines are interfering with the bottom surfaces of the bolt. There is a Canadian gun seller in Toronto area which will machine the clearances.

yup, underside of your bolt must be machined to fit between the magazine lips

Name of the place ? What about the bolt hold-open tab ? Can I modify that ?

I don't hear a lot of success stories regarding function by switching to these cheap detachable mags.
SKS seems to be pretty good running with the original box mag, I don't see any reason to mess with that, stuck to 5 rounds anyway.

Pro-mags in general -Suck! Had one where the feed lips snapped off, & I hardly used it, of which was not reliable. {plastic} The metal one, was good just for show, most un-relaible. Baur sks mag, that was shiit too. Other than factory, I've had no problem & I recommend TAPCO 20rnd mags, they are the best, & I don't recall having any issues, if so, very minor I don't even remember. + work great w/ stripper clips as well.

I have a FT (24M) in a Tapco stock (I've had the stock for about 10 years), and the T-mags are the best for sure. Never had a problem with any of those mags. And I never tried a ProMag - don't plan to either. I sold an old '51-Tula last year in the wood and had to send one T-mag with it, but I still have 5 plus the T-stock. Then I bought the FT last summer, it was cherry but didn't stay that way long. With the T-stock the mags just pop right in, but the pins in 'em keep me from loading closed-bolt. Gotta work on that. The bore still comes clean, it was Super Shiny when I got the Cosmo off. The OEM sear spring is much lighter than the Tula was, so the pull is only about 4#. At 100 I can get ca 2-3MOA, with irons off a bench.

Because you have replaced a part that doesn't fit properly.
