I was wondering if anyone can tell me what is the longest scope length I can put on my SKS-D with a Choate scope mount so that I don't get the scope dinged (and don't need a shell deflector).

I may just get a shell deflector and not worry about scope length but I am just checking out all my options.

Thanks for any info you can give me!

The scope mount is 5" long. I would say you are good for an inch past that before getting dinged. I have a Bushnell Trophy 1x32 T-dot on it now (while waiting for my T-97 to arrive). The scope sits 1 full inch before the end of the scope mount so no way of it getting hit with brass.
I usually have a NC Star 6x32 on it and have to use a shell deflector as it gets whacked on the end. I use the Marstar one that fits under the rear sight. Does the job. It is after all only an SKS!
