I initially tried a receiver cover scope mount. Several gunnutz told me they were crap and would shoot loose, they were right and it did shoot loose.
Round two. I order a PSP mount from kalinka (great people to deal with) and bought a Kobra reddot from a fellow cgn'er. Drilled and tapped the receiver. It was my first time trying this and it was surprisingly easy. I was worried that I would destroy my gun. I didnt and things worked out well. Got the sight mounted and took it to the range. Observations:
- SKS with a red dot scope is really fun to shoot!
- the first two target pics were bench rested at 60 meters
- the last target pic was rapid fire standing unsupported with reticle that looks like this - _ - kinda like the reticle that the alien used in Arnolds Predator movie
- these pics were taken at silverdale range. An awesome range run by really nice people. Their store, Lanz shooting supplies, is a great place to buy stuff. Its a small owner operator place which is exactly the kind of place I like to deal with. Ill take this over a big company anyday regardless of price.
- seems the 7.62 x 39 easily blew a hole in the targets. Target grade steel targets so I was surprised at the damage to them. Silverdale if your reading this Ill happily pay for those targets. With the red dot zero'ed in I easily hit those targets. 3 shots from standing position at 40 meters, 3 targets hit. Im not a great shot, my point is that the red dot makes it easy to point and shoot.
- for those interested the handgun is a tokarev. Love this gun. Works great, points well and I can actually shoot it better than my Beretta 92fs.

Have fun and keep learning. Deal with local folks if you get good service. Ive dealt with bigger places, better prices but horrible service and attitudes (I wont name names), support the small guy (or gal in the case of Lanz Shooting Supplies) and always, ALWAYS be safe!
