sks scope mount

Kalinka mount is what I asked for and santa didn't bring. Reciever mounts are poop especially if shooting crates of ammo and then needing to clean.

I have a Simonov SKS that someone put a lot of effort into turning into a hunting rifle. It has a plastic stock, no bayonet, and a mount that replaces the top cover. It was oversized and needed some swats with a file to fit, but it is held in place by the crosspin. Works like a charm. It came with a really short low power Chinese scope. The objective lens is behind the stripper clip guide for reloads. Best little rig I have for new shooters or tight brush and whitetails. If you can find something like this, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have a receiver cover mount, it needed to be bedded and I had to bolt a plate to the side of it to lock it tight to the receiver.All that and it still shoots 4" groups :)

i dont realy want to have to drill into the side of the receiver ,,,less alterations possible,

Well that leaves you with few options. Without drilling and tappin you are preatty much stuck resetting zero after every cleaning.

Don't mount anything on the receiver cover...ever.

Side mounts on the receiver (not the cover), are the way to go IMHO.

I've tried the tri-rail Leapers mount, with some success, but it definetely makes cleaning a LOT more of a chore. Part of the beauty of the SKS is that you can have it in pieces on the coffee table in less than a minute :D The best system I've found so far is the Kalinka quick-detach side mount, looks like this;

And the side rail you need to mount it looks like this;

Here's the breakdown;
P/N; AMAKPOSPSMWB, Low-profile Weaver Rail side-mount, $49.97US
P/N; AMUP, Universal AK/SKS/SVD side rail, $12.97US
Total; $62.94US
With shipping you're lookin' at around $75.00US

With this system, you have to cut out a relief in the stock for the side rail, and you do need to drill & tap. There's a detailed article on surplusrifle.com, regarding the side-rail mounting procedure.

Marstar sells a scope mount that replaces the body cover for around $50. If anyone has tried it, let us know.

I had one of those and sold it as I have basically no neck and it was quite a high mount. It is "custom fitted" though. The directions tell you to slide the cover on and give her a whack with a rubber mallet and then file down any shiny spots until the cover glides perfectly into place. No kidding.

I shoot my SKS with open sights now and made two bucks when I sold my rubber mallet.:rolleyes:
