SKS scope mounts .... anyone recommend the scout mount?

I've decided that I won't go with the dust cover type of scope mount based on opinions and surveys in other threads and the likelihood of it loosening and losing zero.

However the rear sight type 'scout' mount seems to be a little more rigid.

My question is this....can the scout mount, if properly installed, be relied upon to hold zero and deliver consistent performance through 1,000 rounds shot?

I'm pretty sure the side mount can do that but I'm trying to avoid drilling, tapping and modifying the stock if possible.

What is your experience with the Scout mount and would you recommend it to a new SKS owner?

You have to take into consideration what type of optic you are going to use when deciding on the scout mount. Also what type of ammo are you going to be using corrosive or non corrosive. If you are going to use a red dot I would use the B.C. tactical mount. If you are going to use a regular long eye relief scope then a ScoutScopes mount is better. I have tried many types of optics's mounts for the SKS and in my opinion mounts like Choates and Weaver Converta mount are the only way to go. They are however drill and tap mounts.

The BC tactical scout mount is a brick. I haven't put 1000 rds through mine yet, but from the reviews I read and opinions here, it is very solid. There is another, longer scout mount that can be found for the SKS, but it has more fasteners to worry about. The BC tactical model has 2, but its downside is the short length limiting what you can put on it.

I have a receiver mount and can't wait to get something else. I like the idea of the choate, I don't know what the ejector mod is but sounds interesting, my shells hot my scope

Sks stickie at the top of the page, file, die grind, dremel the ejection port to a 90 degre angle id explain it more but im drunk and on my i phone and waiting cor another beer. The enjection port on the stock side of the receiver change it too a 90 degree angle and itll spit your shells right out instead of all over the place

I have a bc tactical and vortex sparc. I've blasted countless rounds and it retains zero. In my humble opinion, it also doesn't look too terrible.

I'm hitting the red dot with ejected brass (steel in my case :p ), and it's casuing a few nicks on the vortex. I'm likely going to modify / add / subtract SOMETHING to deal with this issue - not that I care about nicks on the red dot - I'm just now sure if in the long run that its good for the red dot ;)

The Vortex Sparc base is held onto the unit with four small screws tapped into the aluminum housing. This is a weakness. Mine just sheared off.

Hitting the Vortex with empties is not a good idea. I like the ejection port mod idea.
