What should I look for when buying a Scope mount? Fab Sports has one from NC Star and one from Leapers. Which one works best and is the easiest fit for my Russian SKS? I am new to scopes and mounts as this will be my first rifle with a scope.

Thanks!:ar15:

Save yourself a lot of grief and headaches and go with some type of Drill and Tap mount. See the link below it will give you some ideas. The mounts you are looking at I would not suggest.

I've had very poor results with the scope mounts that replace the receiver top cover. They are not stable at all.

A seller at a gun show recently had a SKS mount that replaced the gas tube with one that had a picatinny rail on top. It was cheap and would be easy to use if you don't mind a scout scope or red dot. Maybe someone here has experience with that one?

Bottom one, $42. I picked this one up a few months ago and I also have one that replaces the receiver and agree its garbage. You'll have to zero every time you take the gun apart for cleaning not to mention they don't always have a snug fit and tend to move slightly when firing.

Yeah, I had one of those.... everyone here told me they we're garbage and guess what! CGN was right. I did everthing I could to mount it good and solid and I think it was tighter than the average gas tube mount and what happened? I wasted money and shot all over the damn place.

Worst part was once I decided it was time for my disposable SKS to get a good cleaning it took me 2 hours and unmentionable techniques to get that damn thing off of there.

It actually inspired me never to mess with my SKS again if you can believe that.

Thats how I feel about the gas tube mounts. Get a solid one that goes on the sight or a drill and tap kind of scope and don't waste your money like I did after CGN'rs told me not to.

(insert I told you so here)

Ryan, thanks for the warning regarding those gas tube mounts. I thought they looked too good to be true.

Next time don't beat around the bush...tell us how you really feel!:D

agree. Any type of mount screwed to the receiver is a rock solid solution with 100% repeatable zero. Quick detachable excellent quality POSP scopes mounted on a side rail far superior and extremely reliable system. It is the best investment in optics if any is needed for SKS.
