SKS scope/red dot rail. Where to get one?

I'm looking for some sort of picatinny rail that I could mount on to my SKS to toss a scope or red dot on it. Is there a kit I can pick up that wouldn't require any tapping, or a replacement cover that has a rail on it?

Any help is appreciated. I decided to tacticool out one of my norinco SKS's with an ATI stock, and I would love to toss a red dot or something on there.

Thanks.

You can buy a receiver cover with a rail on it, but many of them seem to have a reputation for not holding zero very well. Available all over the place. I recently picked up a steel side mounted rail that looks promising, but it does require drilling and tapping the side of receiver.
A rail that replaces the rear sight might be worth considering. It's a little bit forward, but it will work with a red dot or scout type scope. I had one on a mosin and as long as the screws had Loctite it seemed to work alright. I've seen a few around, couldn't say off the top of my head who's selling them right now.
Drilling and tapping is still the best option for a good solid mount, the SKS is a fairly easy platform to install a side mount on. Got mine from CanadaAmmo.

Stick with either a scout mount, available from various sponsors. I think Wolverine, Hi cal, and Marstar as well as a few other stock them. Or a Drill and tap Choate or Promag if you want it to actually hold zero. The others seem like much poorer option!! Just my 2 cents!!

Bc tactical has a red dot scope mount that replaces the rear sight. I don't know what their sks one is like but I have the cz one and I am really happy with it, solid and have no issues loosing zero with no gunsmithing. The rear dust cover previously mentioned I do have on my sks and it works but it does loose zero whenever you remove it. Plus a fair bit of filing to the dust cover to get it to fit onto the rifle.

i have the nc star cover, you have to fit it yourself. mine is very tight plus a bonus they have screws on the side to help just in case.
i just have to try it out and let you all know maybe tomorrow

The ncstar mount is absolute crap. I had it on my sks and it couldn't zero at all

you can make the NCstar mount hold zero.

first fit the cover,
-then remove the side screws.
-mark on the reciever were the screws will touch.
-carfully use a drill to dril a dimple about 1mm into the reciever. if you use a 1/8 drill bit when the edge of the drill bit start cutting its deep enough.
-put the reciever cover back on
-on ONE side lock tite the screws into the reciever cover
-on the other side screw in till tight (making sure the reciever cover is lined up corectly so the scope isn't point off to one side or the other) and locktight on the retaining nuts.

Now the scope cover will not jump while firing., and when you need to clean it you simply unscrew the one side. and it allows the cover to pop off. because the one side does not move and the other side you locktighted only the retaining nuts thus limitting how far you can put the screws back in and maintaining set presure while remounting. The cover will now hold zero even with unmounting to clean.

thanks for the idea

Thanks for the responses guys. I have some reading up to do, but so far I'm liking the idea of just replacing the rear sight for a scout scope.

looks nice, but what about how the shells eject up is there a deflector plate

Now that looks interesting, CanAm! It would appear to utilize the receiver cover latch pin and the rear sight mount to attach? Maybe worth looking into, I like the added length.

Looks like it can take some hits from the ejected casings and not move.. I modified the ejector port on mine, but the occasional casing still goes up. Probably what killed the scope I just chucked out lol

Damn! That's pretty ###y... Would be awesome with the archangel sks stock when it comes out, to really tacticool it! I'm not looking at my sks right now, but the latch at the back - I'm pretty sure mine isn't circular like that. Does it come with that replacement piece? Any other details how its installed?

Edit: More details on Mag-Wedge's homepage: http://magwedge.com/products/rifle-accessories/sks/
