i am more worried about clearance issues than longevity.

if it sets up the way i want it to,
then i will spend some money on a scope

SKS scope

From my personal experience I would suggest Belarus scope from KALINKA.
They are calibrated for 7,62X39 cartridge an built like a Russian tank.
I try many different scopes with SKS and they don't last long....

I just ordered an SKS from Marstar... I also ordered a scope in 4 power with a mount.
Are you saying the scope wont live past the crate of ammo I also bought?.

If so, too bad... I dont mind using open sights on a close range rifle.

Yes I have had verry bad luck with these scopes. The reticale keeps on going on me no matter what I have tried to do to stop it from happening.
Personaly I would take Zygy's point of view to heart. As he like me have noticed that those scopes on these rifles is 1 great combonation.
