what would be the period correct scope be for an sks?
I have a nice russian that I dont want to bubba but at the same time I would like a scope, thinking a period correct scope would do just fine.

I have a milling machine and lathe so I can do work myself since I am positive this wont be a "drop in" install.

So you want a 1950's era Soviet bubba basically? PU scope was made in that era, but really the Soviet scopes were designed for longer ranged rifles more so, like the Mosin Nagant. When you're talking about the effective range of an SKS, you should be looking at a scope designed for 100-300 meters... a tactical type scope. Not sure the Ruskies had one like that, but would love to know about it if they did. Scopes were pretty much a sniper's tool back then, and a sniper wouldn't be shooting an SKS.

From a collector's or preservationist's POV, I think any scope on an SKS is going to detract, whether it be era correct or not.

If I were really into the idea of scoping a semi-auto Soviet rifle and keeping it 'as original', I would get me an SVT-40 sniper.

The SKS would have no period scope as it was as mentioned a short range weapon
I would suggest something that is quickly installed and removed as the
shooting situation requires
I went with this
