SKS scout mount recommendations?

Hey guys, I just picked up a BC Tactial mount for my SKS and Iwas wondering what kind of suggestions you guys have for optics? Iuse the rifle for plinking at 100 yards and I plan on taking it with me on my first deer hunt this november. Basically something reliable, easy enough to mount on the short rail, and preferably around the $200 or less mark. I've been looking at the trs25, if anybody wishes to chime in on that?

Also I have a cheap 2x20 ler scope that I wouldn't trying just to see if I like it. My question is how far back can the rear of the scope be in relation to the bolt carrier and not be hit by spent casings? I feel like putting two rings on the rear of the scope is too far back. With one ring in the front slot of the rail it seems like it would probably provide enough clearance but would that be enough to hold zero? Some sort of extension or cantilever mount seems like the answer, any ideas on a budget setup? (I mostly just want to try it and see if I like a LER setup before I invest much)

I would stay away from a full size scope on a BC tac mount because of the short rail. The TRS25 is a great compact red dot for the mount, it has some great reviews. If you are bent on the full size scope and brass hitting your optic, check out the following link post 60. This mod works great.

Red dot it and for 200 yards or less should be good enough. Got to remeber that a scout scope generaly isn't more than 2x zoom any way so no real need for supper mag exspecaily with the x39 round. Plus the way an SkS ejects the spent rounds if there is anything over the action it's going to get hit unless you mod your gas system. Another words 100 yards or less a red dot in the woods zero'd at 50 yards on this rifle is pure gravey.

Thanks for the responses guys, I think I'll pick up the Bushnell tomorrow on my way home. I would like to try something with a little mag, but it seems like more hassle than it would be worth, especially with the 7.62x39 as you mentioned. Plus considering my plinking is done at 100 yards and I'll be hunting in fairly close packed hardwoods at most likely 50-75 yards at a moving deer , I think the red dot will work quite well. Hopefully much better than the irons.

Well if you want a little mag say like 2x you could always get a vortex sparc it comes with all these goodies including a screw on 2x magnifier.

I picked up a Sparc recently and was totally underwhelmed. It has excellent mount options included with the sight, but the optics seem terrible, with a heavy blue tint and very poor clarity. It becomes almost useless with the 2x magnifier in place. I think using it for hunting with the 2x would be a total waste of time. The TRS25 is shorter and seems much clearer, although it lacks the multi-height mount of the Sparc. My TRS has survived 700-750 rounds on a 12-gauge and still functions perfectly...haven't played with the Sparc too much yet.

Ya I considered the sparc mostly due to the magnifier included but I read alot of reviews saying the magnifier gave it a very narrow tunnel vision like field of view, especially mounted farther away. So I stuck with the Bushnell.

On that note, I picked up the trs25 today at the local gun store. Got there after work just before they close, so i paid and rushed home. Got home and somebody was kind enough to kill the batteries on me (atleast they were nice enough to turn it off after doing so...). So I went to the drug store to get a new battery that I wasted $6 on. But I was still excited until I finally switched the thing on and the dot looks gross. I was expecting a fairly crisp circle, instead its more like a distorted star made up of a non-uniformly packed cluster of tiny pin point dots . I'm assuming this isn't right?

This actually my first red dot, I hope I'm just not being picky, the small cluster of dots are much more prevalent at lower levels (you can see each tiny dot making up the cluster), at higher levels the glow kind of covers up the dots and it becomes more of a blob surrounded by smaller blobs? Should it not be a fairly crisp circle?

The TRS-25 dot should appear as a single dot, not a cluster. On high brightness settings you can get some "starring" around the dot, making it appear larger and less defined.

Set it at the lowest power you can clearly see. Does it still appear as multiple dots?

At the lowest setting the dots are extremely visible, in sort of a 3 pointed star shape, when I get to around 3 and higher the starring gets worse. Even at the highest setting some dots are visible. Icant get my camera to focus enough to show what I mean. Could almost be described as a snow flake-like dot.
