SKS Shooters "Clean up your Act"

With an unsupervised facility it's next to impossible to catch anyone at it, unless one of the active volunteers happens to be there at the same time.

And like Hook said, we have a wheeled magnet for steel. It doesn't take much longer for me to pick up all the steel rather than just my own.

Ours is unsupervised too. However, we installed a card key access gate and now it records who was there when.

So if I show up on Tuesday and notice piles of brass or garbage or vandalism or whatever, I check the logbook and see who was there last, cross reference it with who used their card key recently (because not everyone signs in properly) and we can narrow down the offenders. Then I call them up and ask them to not leave brass/garbage/vandalize etc.
 
Niko- pouting about fees that you agree to pay (if you don't like the price, you are free to go elsewhere) or trying to convince others that the brass you leave on the ground is more valuable than stuff picked up and put in a pail ...is a bit weak and doesn't change the fact that all SKS shooters come under fire for the laziness of a few. Fact of life is that is will be the guys who display "attitude" that will be the first to get get punted. Most clubs do not depend on the 5% of members who shoot SKS's so any threats that we will "go broke" fall an ears that just don't care! What's wrong with just picking up after yourself....take a tour of a MacDonalds and you see that most of their paying customers use the garbage dispensers.
Most SKS shooters are pretty responsible...but, it doesn't take many to screw it up. Lets keep the attitude towards SKS shooters positive. The reality of Range "politics" is that it it is mostly old, conservative guys like myself who influence the "rules" the most...probably because we attend meetings and volunteer for executive positions, etc.
Now, please forgive me for not being my "timid" self, but my back is sore after picking up three gallons of 7.62 X 39 cases today.

damn! thats got to be about what few hundred pounds of steel ? got at least 150$ worth there ;) i'll take it.
 
How lazy or self entitled would one have to be to not care about the mess that they leave behind at the range? Dude, your mother doesn't shoot there, so she's not going to clean up after you. If this were to happen at my club, you would be punted very quickly. Oh and about the "big bucks" you pay for membership, there's a waiting list of people who aren't slobs would would love to join up.

So true. About three years ago our club had a sharp increase in neighbour complaints. High volumes of rapid fire was the big concern even some claims of full auto (bump firing?) The increase in complaints was accompanied by a noticeable increase in 7.62x39 casings all over the range.

The volunteer executive attempted to find out who it was to no avail. So they imposed a rate of fire rule, membership cap, mandatory training sessions for new and recently-joined shooters, a new sign in and gate system. Complaints continued as the did discovery of piles of surplus steel cases all over the range.

The CFO got involved and mandated no shooting alone. The range executive also banned FMJ. Complaints decreased as did the piles of 7.62x39.

The new rules caused a sharp decline in the membership. From a financial perspective the club would have been better off to ban the SKS, CZ858 and the 7.62x39 and taken the small loss of membership as opposed to the large decline caused by a group of Ricky Rambos and their rapid fire 7.62x39.
 
$200 - wow! When you pay that kind of coin someone should wash your car while you shoot.

I'm heading out today for a few hours of rifle range cleanup. It's always the same 2-3 volunteer guys who do it, and we are always very sorry when it interrrupts a paying member's shooting experience. Maybe if I sweep up enough steel casings, the return from the scrap yard will pay for part of the gas I use to get them there.

I would find another range to shoot at if my club decided to impose more rules and bans above and beyond some of the ridiculous rules the CFO already have in place. I guess some people think it should be bolt action wood and steel only. Must be fun to shoot there.

Brilliant conclusion. And if you try hard enough, the shooting sport can be made small again, the strict domain of the benchrester and claybuster.

Then the LIEberals will be sure to leave us alone in our small numbers. :rolleyes:

The day they ban the SKS is the day I will write a cheque to Wendy Cukier and lobby with her to ban clay target shooting. Food for thought.

Maybe it's time to put aside your prejudices and realize we are all in this together?

So true Claven. You know all those shattered orange clay pieces really look bad too, and im sure you know all about that "Claybuster"- the SKS crowd arent the only ones making a mess. People should pick up there own mess regardless of brass/steel/shotgun hulls/garbage etc.. - no question.
 
some of you guys just cant make it through a day without 'lording' over others.

i love bump firing a five round burst and then throwing a look of disgust at all the passive aggresive fudds trying to look down their noses.

its funny, they will drill holes in the back of your head until you turn and look them in the eyes. then its eyes straight at the ground, waiting to get back to CGN to vent.

Yep, Liberials in disguise.

If I want to waste my money and shoot rapid fire string after rapid fire string until the paint burns off my rifle... then I will. I don't want some idiot telling me that I'm shooting too fast or throwing too much brass... I clean up after myself.
