That's our policy too. Unfortunately, no one follows it.
With an unsupervised facility it's next to impossible to catch anyone at it, unless one of the active volunteers happens to be there at the same time.
And like Hook said, we have a wheeled magnet for steel. It doesn't take much longer for me to pick up all the steel rather than just my own.
Ours is unsupervised too. However, we installed a card key access gate and now it records who was there when.
So if I show up on Tuesday and notice piles of brass or garbage or vandalism or whatever, I check the logbook and see who was there last, cross reference it with who used their card key recently (because not everyone signs in properly) and we can narrow down the offenders. Then I call them up and ask them to not leave brass/garbage/vandalize etc.
