SKS shooting question

Hey guys,

I shot my sks for the first time today and it is awesome!!

The only thing that I am a little concerned about is that I cannot zero the thing. I set up a target about 50 yards away, dropped it to the neutral setting on the rear leaf site and I noticed that I keep shooting right. I was just playing around so the distance really shouldn't matter Ill try and zero at 100 later. I moved the sight all the way to the right and it moved onto the target and now I cannot move it any more. What do I do now am I stuck with a far right shooting rifle or is there something that I can do?

The "N" on a Russian SKS is the 300 meter battle setting {yep, pull it all the way back}. There are two positions for 300 meters. One you get the horizontal straightened out, set the rear sight to 100 and zero it @ 50m. Then reach out to 100m and see where it prints.

Please don't file the rear sight. The front sight is adjustable both up and down as well as left and right. Adjust the front sight to change your point of aim. See this video.

If you don't have a sight adjustment tool you can use a large punch and a hammer to drift the front sight left or right.

That makes sense now, I should have picked up on the height.

I understand how to adjust the front sight. The problem is that the sight is all the way to the right and it still fires much too far right.
 
Check these two items. Is the entire front sight canted to the left? Look at the muzzle. Is the muzzle bore in the center of the rifle barrel. (I saw an SKS once that had a badly drilled bore)

OP said he moved it to the right. He also said it had the proper effect but ran out of adjustment. The picture you're looking at is one he said he grabbed from the internet.
 
OP; if this is your 1st sks I might suggest that you verify the sight picture with someone at the range that is accustomed to the rifle. I do own an sks that the post is pushed almost all the way to the left, but from the center position to either extreme is like 6-8". That is allot of horizontal adjustment...you should be able to center it. Ensure your not "pulling" the shot.

Everything looks straight and true, nothing irregular.

Ill look into that, I felt pretty relaxed when shooting it but you never know I could have been pulling the trigger too hard. I was pretty excited to get it to the range and fire some rounds through it. I'll need to hit the range again and really take my time I guess.

When moving the front sight. I was asking because I have helped several people at the range who were having the same sort of problem, but were moving the sights the wrong way. Sounds like there may be indexing issues with the barrel then.
