I've been wanting to get my rifle set up with a proper sling for shooting offhand but I've seen it suggested that the barrel attachment is less than ideal and that the standard issue milsurp sling isn't necessarily the best setup for sling techniques like "hasty" and "snapping in" etc.

My rifle is in a tapco stock and right now I'm considering adding an m14 style swivel up front and using the provided swivel on the buttstock. Can anyone recommend a decent sling set up, like usgi style or 2 point, 3 point etc

Or is the good old surplus sling up to the task?

You could try adding a loop on the forward aspect of the issued sling that will wrap over the entire top hand guard and fore-stock.

Or you could try what this guy did. He brazed on his own peep sight and used the original rear sight as a sling mount position.
