sks spare parts

I have to agree, I have put over a crate of mine in the last two months without missing a beat. A crate of ammo is $279.00 for an additional $75.00 they will throw in a new SKS. These rifles will take 10000+ rounds before they need work if you keep them clean, and with that much ammo that’s over 7 crates of ammo…. So just pick up another around the 5000 round mark. :sniper:

I was interested in the OP's question too. And yeah, at around $200 for a Russian, that does seem to be the most cost effective way of buying a parts assortment.

However, if you were wanting to take a small package of parts with you on a trip, what would you take? What are the most common parts failures?

The most common SKS failures are aftermarket parts. Buy extras if they say NC Star on them. Other than that its pretty bomb proof, failures are rare and usually caused by an out of spec part

I picked up an SKS in late 1980, it still shoots fine with no problems at all. Stay away from the aftermarket junk and you don't need spare parts. Having that said, Rifles are pretty cheap and there is no reason why one should not have a few complete spare rifles. A year or two back, we were buying rifles just to get the super good deal on ammo. Same thing with Mosins, you should be buying two at a time.

As others have said, you don't really need spare parts, but it doesn't hurt to buy a nice clean Russian refurb (before they dry up) that can double as a parts rifle in the unlikely event that you need a part. The only spare parts I own are a new (NOS) Russian gas tube/handguard and a nice new Chinese military gas piston.
