Hello guys I just bought my first gun and that off course is the mighty SKS. Took it to the range and fired couple of rounds . Came back home and I was trying to clean it. I stripped it but when I was putting it together I forgot which way the spring goes I mean on one side spring has a little stopper and it is straight and other side is little wiggled up. so my question is does it matter which way it goes. Seems like a stupid question but I am a new guy so all the help will be much appreciated thanks in advance.

The wiggled up side goes in the bolt carrier:)

Wiggly end forward...you might want to google "sks disassembly" and it'll cover the entire disassembly of the top components for cleaning, and taking the trigger group out if you want to polish the sear grooves and tracks, etc, to make the trigger smoother.

Ha ha "wiggly end" I love the description. The jointed end slides into the bolt carrier and the and fixed end is under the dust cover. A little tip, when sliding the bolt carrier and the bolt back into the receiver, open the magazine so the bolt slides in easily. That caught me up the first time I took apart my sks. Enjoy the new rifle and make sure ya scrub her down good!

when I bout my fist sks in 1999 from S.I.R. the spring was in the other. I shot it and put it too gather like that for about 2000+ rounds
now I do the way it should be, but I had no probls befour

it isnt a big problem if you but the spring in backwards. really the worst that will happen is a failure to eject / feed. The wiggles side should go into the bolt carrier (the piece with the cocking knob sticking out the side), otherwise then the gas piston pushes it back, its possible it (the bolt carrier) may bind or catch on one of the outermost sides of the spring and not be fully pushed to the back.

I had an SKS come like this too actually. It's interesting that this was able to get through the inspectors upon refurb!

I've found more the half the sks's I've bought from pawn shops had the spring in wrong. always wondered if that is why they were pawned.

this pic should help.
