Picked up a Russian SKS today. Trying to take it apart to clean all the cosmo off and am stumped by the screw through the stock under the rear sight...it won't budge. The end of the screw on the "nut" side looks like it's got punches into it to prevent it from being removed.

I've never had an SKS with this screw in the stock before. Does anyone know how to get it out without stripping the slotted head?

I think you are referring to the stock crossbolt. You have no need to remove it. All Sks's have it. Generally there is no need to ever touch it. Pics would help in clarifying what you are referring to though would help.
