A friend of mine has a refurb laminate with a stock that moves frontwards and backwards 1/8 of an inch. I have read up on bedding but am wondering if there is a simpler solution. The rifle shoots 3 moa or better otherwise he wldnt care...
Mine did the same thing. I eventually bedded it with JB weld and used shoe polish as a relief agent. Now shoots maybe 1.5moa off a bag. It really wasn't a lot of work.
After doing that and a 303 Lee enfield, I felt comfortable enough to bed my 308 winchester model 70 in a Boyd's stock. I suggest JB weld bedding in the sks
Did u bed it at the center stock pin or at the back. Did u take any material off to apply the JB weld? My old man used to use that on his custom rigs too. I think this one can print sub 2 moa with bedding too.
A temporary solution to see if tight bedding will help is layered aluminum tape. I tried this on a reasonably accurate beater sks and had good results for the small time investment.
I cut up a pop can once and made some strips out of it. Stuck them behind the action until it was tight and then epoxied them to the stock. Tightened up well and never moved on me.
I use scrap tin or pop can or shim stock from my old lathe, one piece at the back of the recoil lug and another at the cross bolt. It shrunk my groups in half.
