Over the years as I have purchased ammunition I have amassed a sizeable amount of stripper clips for my SKS. I've always been curious if there is a demand for stripper clips. I've had someone tell me that rounds loaded onto stripper clips are becoming harder to find. The little bit of ammunition that I do have for my SKS is just boxed, so I grab a handful of clips out of my stash on the way to the range.

What are they worth?

i have a handful but ive never used them. I just load by hand.

Is it really that much faster? (assuming id need to load by hand onto the stripper clip to begin with)

It is much faster to load into the gun with stripper clips. I see your point on loading the clips to begin with but think of it as pre loading. I typically load the clips at home and just bring a bunch of loaded clips with me.

If you only have two or three clips and go out plinking then loading the clips then loading the gun is kinda silly.

i think have about 6 clips
it may be a fun thing to do in the deepest winter when im missing getting outside.

But it also may just frustrate me that I can't load 10 as god intended.

I found a stack of them in an estate I was clearing for work. Cut them all in half into 5's. I don't take the sks out very much any more but when I do I bring only loaded clips. Less time wasted at the range, less finger pain in cold weather.

Sometimes you just want to do something firearm related at home but all your guns are clean. In which case I generally do:

Holster / dry fire drills

Practice field stripping and reassembling my handguns with my eyes closed

And loading stripper clips

I have several hundred of them, there is no way I can bring myself to charge a buck a piece like other people. If anybody wants any pm me....

Edit: Thanks for the interest from everyone, never seen so many clips go in under an hour... all gone!

I've done the same thing over the years when I see someone here wanting to buy them, I just give them what I have for the price of shipping. They will sell for 50 cents each no problem though.

If we were allowed 10 rounds as it was designed for...I would certainly use them. Right now, doesn't matter.

You can still load them with 10 and just load half at a time...however 99% of the time for me, a 6th round falls off the clip into the action and I have to remove it before closing the bolt. Could likely be prevented with a little practice. On a cold day it's a bit nicer than loading one at a time and it is much quicker if that matters to you.

I bundle them up in groups of 10 with an elastic band and sell them for $5 a bundle at local gun shoes. They always seem to sell and make a few bucks for me from what is essentially free....

I took a bunch of mine out to the shop and cut them in half with a cold chisel, ground of the rough edges and made one way 5 round stripper clips. My brother went the extra mile and modified some of them by cutting off the ends, bending the center spring and welding new stops in the middle of the clips, finally using the bench grinder to shape the new tabs . His way was loads more work, but it does let you use them in a normal fashion.

Never actually thought about this before, but they seem like a good idea. I haven't looked for them but I haven't stumbled across them for sale either.
