SKS suggestions?

If you want a good 'all weather' shooter sks, I would suggest the following.

1: get a good quality Russian or maybe Chinese military SKS.

2: get one of the Chinese red phenolic resin impregnated linen (?) stocks.

3: fit the Chinese jungle stock to your rifle by hand.

4: most importantly, beg borrow or steal a good trigger job on your SKS.

5: enjoy.

Get on YouTube and check out how to do a trigger mod...polishing and changing the angle on the sear, polishing the tracks
and contact points, installing lighter Wolff springs, and then lubing everything...your trigger is the most important mod you
can make on an SKS. Get a recoil buffer for the back of your receiver as well, reduces vibration and wear.

Just finished getting a friends Russian 'serviceable' again. Seriously, how many Russian SKS's do we have to bang apart before we admit that maybe the Chinese factory ones aren't so bad?

I also prefer Russian... For authenticity..they designed it..not the Chinese.
I guess its sort of like.... would you prefer a German made VW or Mexican?
I'd prefer to buy a US made Smith ENterprise M14 but my f'in government make me purchase a damn chinese.....

Russian SKS all the way. 54 Izzy has the cleanest machining IMO but it doesn't make it shoot any better than any other SKS. So buy the real deal since you can !

I've had a chinese sks bolt carrier fragment on me. Cut my finger on the charging handle, which was left sharp by it. Mighta been a chinese commercial variety, but still, go russian. Especially if it's an Izzy. You won't regret it!

I've had nothing but good luck with my 2 Russian SKS', so here's my suggestion for the OP:

1) buy a Russian SKS - doesn't matter if it's refurb, unissued, whatever,

2) buy a couple crates of ammo

3) watch the Youtube videos and read the stickies on how to properly disassemble, clean, and reassemble an SKS

4) go somewhere legal and shoot the livin' hell out of it!!!!
