SKS Synthetic Stock Question

Im looking to get one of those Monte Carlo Stocks for my Norinco SKS.
Just wondering how these stocks hold up against the heat off the barrel and gas tube.

Is there any risk of melting the hand gaurd? I know it doesnt take much plinking at the range to get that barrel and gas tube quite hot.

I usually put about 30-40 rounds through my gun before i let it cool down abit.

Any info from you guys would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
i had an ati dragonov stock on my yugo sks(m59) and after about fifty rnds it started to heat up but it never got soft. i really hated that plastic stock (i could never get it to hold the gun solid)so i didn't let the gun cool and although the stock didn't melt it did begin to smoke. i took it off and fired it into the bush. (klunk and i had burned down the bush the weekend prior).i have since remounted the original wood stock and even though its made for short people i am much happier with the gun

Personally I like my Dragonov stock , can't remember who made it .
I have shot mine lots , rapid fire , smokin hot . I never have had any issues with the stock . I kind of figured the smoke was from the oil on the gun . one of the best upgrades for the rifle IMO .
 
well you wouldent have to worry that much unless you had like 50 mags filled and you fired and reloaded as fast as you can outher then that you should have no problems with the bbr heating up.

Battle rifles and Assault weapons have used plastic for years. Hell when I was in Vietnam in the 60's we use to call our M16's Matty Mattels. If you fire enough, hot and fast, you will fry the barrel before the handguards. Also one of the reasons the DOD went to plastic for M14 guards. Google it
 
I have the Tapco stock on mine got it from Hical.ca and they are quality products & warrantied for life. I have shot 400rds in A day at the range and no melting at all so I can say the Tapco wont melt
 
I am 6'6" so the Monte Carlo stock was a must for me. I purchased it about a year ago and I am now working on my second crate of surplus and I have absolutely no complaints about either the rifle or the stock. I shoot gophers with mine and go through 300-400 rounds in a day and it works fine and no problems with melting or even getting soft for that matter.
