hello
im taking a step into the sks world.
i cant really say im board with the vz 58 and the cz 858
but ive done just about everything i can with them for example.
-customizing
-differant posp optics(any questions i can answer them)
-bullet penetration tests(mostly galvinized steel)
-durability tests
-hunting
-target
they have proven to be a solid reliable firearm.
expect for one small issue(not the gremlin)
i dont think they are worth 700 dollars though.
so i think im done with these until gohfer season.
i picked up a russian r.s.a sks. i plan on having 2 or 3
im redoing the stock i trimmed and sanded the butt stock a little
so i can install a pistol grip. and painting it a winter camo design.
im installing a side rail on to the receiver, i dont drill and tap or weld
i have a better permanent way of installing side rails.
have a posp 4x24 with 7.62x39mm reticle bullet drop comp up to 300 yards
and rangefinger, i love posp scopes. like everything russian there f**ked up but they work
and work well. so far this is what ive done.
but i want your guys opinions on what works well for optics
acessories that are very durable, fancy triggers anything let me know
what you guys are doing with yours. i was on hical a few days ago
and seen a socom tri rail hand guard mount, i checked today and not there anymore.
anyone know who is selling them? im also building a aluminum body for the receiver
to sit in with my hydraulic press so i can install some ak furniture
ill post pictures of all these projects shorty when i finish

Honestly, the SKS is better stock than moded, even if they make fun gun project to experiment. There's load of SKS for sale on the EE that have lot of tacticool, mostly useless stuff,on them and sellers will never get back the investments.... Its only my opinion, its your SKS so you can do whatever you wish:)

Yeah I'm sure it designed the way it was for a reason . But i just don't like those stocks for continuous shooting plus i always rest the gun on the pistol
Grip to shoot, if it was a yugo 59/66 i would leave it stock. But i love projects like this anyways and there cheap so whatever. I know what u mean about tactical stuff like that , I'm not about cool looks as much as iam comfort . I don't like useless stuff weighing down my gun. I want that tri rail system so i can mount a flashlight and laser for late beaver hunts

I don't think you can get better performance out of the SKS but customizing is fun. Looking forward to the pics.

Well those pictures won't be for a few weeks if not more but since this is the red rifles forum
Here's a picture

The SKS is a rugged, battle proven little carbine, but you can't make a silk purse out of a pig's ear.....

you could make a very nice leather coin purse...my 54 izzy refurb is going into yugo stock with the butt extension...eventually i would like to mount a scope, and use it for hunting...that'll be my bubba

The OP's idea for a metal "lower receiver" is interesting, i've thought about that as well...for the purpose of a pistol grip, if done right would look better than adding a pistol grip to an SKS stock...

hmmm that is an interesting idea with a metal lower for pistol grip use, and if you could build a sks into something similar to a cz858 for less than 700 including the gun cost.......
