I'm 6'5" and my SKS feels like it was made for the little people on TLC. Any ideas as to retain the originally replaced laminate stock but add a few inches to the butt? I was looking on the slip-on recoil pads but thought you might have some better ideas. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

You can always get a Dragunov type stock put on. I think they're longer and they look bada$$. If you don't want one of those i'd probably do like you said and either get a slip on recoil pad or get a permanent one installed. Good luck.

"...made for the little people on..." Made for illiterate conscripts named Ivan, Pong and Mubuto. Most of the slip on pads will only add an inch or so. Like tiriaq says, there are 2" pads. What's your LOP?

I am 6'0, and I find it a bit short, so I can only imagine how you feel shooting it

my trigger hand gets a weird twist in the wrist, and I already have really bad wrists, so first few shots, hurt, and then I have to adjust my wrist a certain way :S

Made for Russian farmers/conscripts and also good for small Asians crawling through tunnels chasing Americans. (sorry for the generalizations)

With a couple good layers of cloths on in the winter chasing coyotes with the dogs and the SKS at -40 out.... the LOP is just perfect. With just a t-shirt it's a bit short but still good enough to be relatively comfortable to shoot. They're easy to crawl through a culvert with too :)

I put a Tapco on one of my SKSs for this same reason. Works great with the adjustable butt my wife can shoot it too...

I had a left over recoil pad from a Remington Model 700, and ground it down to fit, then just screwed it on. Cheap, and it gave me a extra 1 1/2 inches of length. I could use another 1/2 to 1 inch though, and I am just a average 5"10. Atleast my solution helped, and looks normal.

I think that these things were meant to be used while the soldiers were running. Back when they were invented in the 1940's the average person was probably smaller than they are today also. I remember hearing, that back in the late 1800's, in the days of the old wild west, it was very rare for a person to grow 6 Feet tall. Wyatt Earp was supposed to be considered Huge, and he was exactly 6 Feet tall.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Sunray, my LOP is 16" give or take a 1/8". Is this what my stock should measure to the trigger for a proper fit?

Lejarretnoir,do you know who carries the 2" butt extendors if you don't mind saying?

I went to the local gunshop and he had a box full of rubber buttpads.
There was one in there that matched my SKS right down to the screw holes.
Best thing i did for my SKS.

No I don't, but use to have one on my old Norc I sold and cannot remember where I got it from. Try Fabsports and see if they can help you out.

16" LOP! That is a long arm! You probably need this 2". Leapers UTG RB-SKBTP02A

Tell me about it! My knuckles always drag on the ground and can never find pullovers that fit my arms but I'm stuck with it. On a positive note, I have the pick of the best fruit and veggies at the grocery store that's too far for most people to reach.
