sks trigger work

We do all kinds of SKS work, from triggers jobs, barrel chops, barrel threading, drill & tap scope mounts, neck & throat reaming etc, have a look HERE.

Messing around with the trigger assembly of your SKS can be VERY DANGEROUS cou:. This is mainly due to the fact that the sear travels inline with the recoil of the firearm. IF you polish/file too much in the wrong spots, the sear of the trigger group can become easily susceptible to slipping out from underneath the hammer when the gun is subjected to impact (dropping, recoil etc). In other words, ANY TYPE OR AMOUNT of trigger work done on the SKS will result in a more and more unsafe firearm = making the trigger break nicer, or feel lighter ultimately involves making the sear come out from underneath the hammer easier, making it also more easier to slip out under impact. In the end, it comes down to what " unsafe/good trigger " balance you are able to accept.

AS far as the trigger job goes....
Simply changing the weight of the mag release spring with a lighter one, can make a huge improvement on the overall trigger pull weight. PLUS if you pick the wrong weight, and the trigger assembly becomes too unsafe :runaway:; you can simply reinstall the old spring or a heavier spring than the previous one and everything will be back to normal  I was able to get an SKS trigger group down to just under 4lbs in less than 10mins doing this method, and the spring came from a bag of assorted springs I bought from a hobby store for 5 bucks! BUT like stated earlier, that only effects the trigger pull weight (as well as make your mag release lever easier to pull = two birds with one stone! ). To change how far the trigger travels under tension of the "sear hammer bind", and how it breaks; thats requires the more permanent and highly dangerous methods of polishing and shaping the sear.

Shortening the overall length of the sear directly effects how far the trigger travels under the "sear hammer bind"
Changing the angle of the hammer engagement part of the sear greatly effects how the trigger breaks
Polishing the contact surfaces of the parts is the safest and most modest way to improve the trigger other than the springs method, and it effects the trigger break, removes any gritty feelings and slightly helps with pull weight.

You can also change the little spring located on the hammer spring bar just above the trigger with a lighter one. This of coarse is non permanent and will reduce overall trigger weight and will dramatically reduce the initial pull weight of the trigger.

******* NOTE *************** combining the springs method with any polishing or sear shaping can dramatically effect the trigger overall. And can escalate into an unsafe trigger VERY FAST. ( although with much perfecting, this is what ive done to my current SKS's trigger group)

Finally, adding a trigger over travel stop; (which can basically be an adjustable bolt and nut drilled and attached into the back of the trigger guard so it stops the trigger travel past the breaking point) really adds icing to the cake and helps makes the SKS
easier to bump fire too :ar15:

Tried the Murray spring kit and the other one which I forgot etc.. Never got that perfect trigger and would consider the stock better than them. so going the hical.ca route

I never ventured as far as the YouTube self videos either.

As some have mentioned, it is fairly easy to do, however a proper understanding of the sear engagement is of high importance. I have found that on Tula SKS rifles and probably others, they have a positive engagement and would likely become unsafe if polished without adjusting the sear engagement angle. If you are considering doing your own trigger, I would recommend watching this first https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMSEWSDeprQ make sure you understand the sear engagement and testing procedures and are comfortable with the process described before proceeding. If you are not 100% confident in your understanding and ability to preform the job and test it safely then I would recommend having a competent gun smith perform the job for you. I noticed hical.ca mentioned above that they do SKS trigger jobs.
