SKS trunk gun ammo storage??

I have a sks that is in my trunk year round , and my question is what is the best way to store its ammo in the car with regards to temp swings from season to season and from heating and cooling of the vehicle in winter. how much does this effect the life of the ammo and is there something I could buy that would keep the ammo at a constant temp ?

Yes it is. But I think it's the right thing to do. I have also done so twice with my .22, and once with .222 remington. From 5-10 yards away, a .22 behind the ear is enough for caribou and moose I can tell you that. Plus you can get a nice, small, quiet .22 and carry a lot of ammo for it in a small trunk. And cheap too.
 
Ok , so the ammo should be alright stored in a secured container and temp is not an issue as far degrading the ammo

storing a gun in your trunk is not illegal (go educate yourself and use the search for several threads on this topic).

I occasionally store an 870 in my truck, I used it last year to put an injured deer down on the side of the highway. An RCMP officer was present and asked me to do it.

I’ve GOT to get out of Vancouver. The only thing I could see happening here is a local police officer struggling with his english to tell me to get back in my car and leave the gun in the trunk..

The manner in which several posters have descried the activity in question is very illegal. Infact part of the original question had to do with preforming the activity without an officer present which is the only legal way to do it.

I know you can keep a firearm in a vehicle, i have one there myself. that was never the question or point of contention. The OPS question was about temperature swings affecting ammo stored in the vehicle.

Your so far off topic its not even funny, your is the only irrelevant post in this thread so far with wild accusations that I don't know the laws.

I keep a gun in the vehicle because I often pass through farmlands that /i have permission to shoot coyotes on... hate to miss a good opportunity because i didn't have a firearm.

SKS is a good choice for this kinda thing because
1) its got the kick to get out to 300 meters and drop animals
2)Easy to store (and get out in a hurry) in vehicles due to its carbine size
3)Its cheap, so if it gets stolen (smash and grab or auto theft)your not out a lot of money

Yep, but if that happens, you'd probably get charged with improper storage of a firearm.

Why not? during duck/goose season i kept my 12g and gear in my trunk.

you cant plan for every what if. if you did that you would be sitting at home all day planning for you what ifs.

is it legal? one of the many things i have learnt, being charged and being convicted are two different situations. Also, OP you could realistically make life easier by having targets with your rifle. My wife and i swap vehicles on a regular basis, when required i transfer my gear between the two so I maintain access to it and she doesnt have to worry about transporting without a license.
 
Ammo and a gun in a trunk seems like a recipe for rust imo
The trunk, might be more temperature constant then the inside, so it may fair better than my experience of a rifle inside the cab.
I'd throw some desiccants in with the ammo.
