There's a date stamp on the receiver. See what year and arsenal it comes from. Then, check the stock, if hardwood, look for old serial ###X out. See if you have a laminate stock that's blonde rather than dark. If laminate stock and hard wood hand guard. Describe what you have and post some pics.

If it has a square box with a diagonal line in it, stamped on the wood somewhere, that is a sign that its a refurb.

If your laminated stock is very dark and no date on the top cover, great chance it's an original.

If your laminated stock is pale, and 1950 - 51 - 52 - 53 - 54 date on top cover, it's for sure a refurb.

BUT, picture worth 1000 words.

Likely a refurb. All the CT SKS' are, based on their supplier.

And nothing wrong with a clean refurb... for shooters, I seek out the laminates and I really dig the blued bayonets.

You won't get an un-issued rifle without paying twice as much. That said, a non-refurb rifle doesn't shoot any better than a refurb, and you drop all its value if you did shoot it. A refurb rifle will shoot well and problem free for as long as you own the rifle.

I just bought a laminate re-furb. The action is mint and the stock is the tightest fit on the recoil lug of any SKS I have had apart.
