Hello everyone, I have a couple of 1956 sks, one refurb, one not so much. They each have a undated star stamp of which I have only seen one other online.

Just curious how common these are here, if anyone else has one or an unusual 55/6 or letter series sks to show, please do.

Could it have been scrubbed during refurbishing? I have a 1950-51 based on the shape of the gas block and style of bolt but its marked 1954 on the cover so I know it was swapped at some point. The one cover looks a little discoloured like something was removed.

The refurb has some light pitting near the star but I don't think it was scrubbed. They both have matching covers and serials are both KP"###X"Д, the Д indicating it's a 1956. The Russians underwent changes in stampings between 1955 and 1956, some have a clean receiver cover with no stamps and some have only a small tula star on the side of the receiver. I believe mine are transitional ones when they were playing with different configurations.

The crossed square on one of the covers is the refurbishment stamp of the 1st Arsenal GRAU. There’s a good chance some of the major components were replaced at the time, the arsenal would serialize the new parts.

Thanks for the info everyone.
The refurb has matching numbers except the magazine. Stock is renumbered, Bolt is blued and the piston and gas tube are unnumbered. The numbers do have the "KP" serial prefix so I do believe it to be a true late 56 transitional.
