Ok, don't worry I am not whining this time lol . I went to the Armsfair in Longueuil, Que. today with a buddy and picked up 4 stripper clips(cost $9, not sure if that is a good price, I never bought any before) cause my buddy decided he was gonna try out my SKS before I sent it back to S.I.R. So after scrubbin the chamber and with the surp.ammo, it shot like crazy. We shot 30 shells in a row with no problems :dancingbanana: Then went back to the " Lellier & Bellot" shells and had the same problem as before, the 3rd shell ripped in half. So I am guessing since my SKS eats up surplus ammo with no problem, then I have no head space problem and it was a problem with the Lellier&Bellot ammo. Since I also want to hunt with this rifle I hope it likes Federal or Remington soft point. I have no idea where the surp. ammo is from, the base of the shells say bxn and has the number 66. My only problem is I wished I bought more or it, cause sure was fun shooting it. Only semi I ever shot before is my Toz 22, not quite the same LOL.

OMG! $9 for 4 stripper clips.....If you buy a case of Czech ammo, you get a ton of stripper clips. I'm sure most guys on this forum would give you some for nothing.....Hell, if you want send me your address and I'll send you a bunch for free.

The ammo is Czech milsurp. If you order a case of it from Marstar it comes on the clips in boxes.

You got hosed on the stripper clips.

How much was the S&B ammo ? If its a decent price maybe I'll pick some up to try in my SKS.

Craig

LOL...well Since I could not get any ammo anywhere else it was worth the price to see my SKS works . As for buying a case, I think 1000 rounds would be a bit much, plus since my ex wife has most my $$ LOL it be to much for me to purchase, unless I had someone to split it with. And to be honest, I took the shells off the stripper clips cause I had no idea how to feed them into the gun  LOL like I said before ...Soooo much to learn:redface:

Right on HB. I'm glad everything worked out. I was feeling a little quilty for vouching for SIR in our PM's.

With an SKS No such thing. :D

Also don't feel too bad over the stripper clip thing, I have made more then enough gun related purchases only to discover later that I got hosed.

Hmmm I was wonder what was up with that Lellier&Bellot ammo you had?

Have you dropped the company an email on your findings?
They might have some interesting feedback on this.

It sounds like you paid $9 for the stripper clip. But I think you mean you bought 4 stripper clips with cartridges (4 x 10 round on a clip = 40 rounds). That's ok then. If you actually bought the stripper clips for $9 and then paid for the cartridges then you paid way too much.

Glad the gun worked out. The SKS is a lot of fun. I only fired surplus ammo in mine. When I bought the gun I also split half a crate of ammo with a friend of mine. Now I wish I would have taken the whole thing.

Glad to hear the sks is working like it should, but sad about the price you paid for the stripper clips! I was trying to give them away at $2 for an ammo pack full(around 13) lol. And once you get a crate you'll soon discover that you should have gotten two. At around 7 cents a shot, I take 20 boxes of twenty to the range and have a much lighter ammo box when I leave. That's the whole point IMHO why I own one. Cheap to buy and cheap to shoot. (Did I say one?)

Glad to hear it turned out well. I have fired a few boxes of commercial, so I hope you can too. I have tried the American eagle (red box) and Remington's economy stuff too...

PM me if you're really stuck for the surplus though... I have a sleeve or two I could part with :) a sleeve is 140rds I think... I'll go check. The ammo I have is South African PMP surplus...

LOL yes you were right rolling....And I guess I should have said that the stripper clips had ammo on them. Was forty shells on stripper clips for $9. And no Buster I have no re-loading experience, though one day I hope to do that..lol..be when the kids are done school and I no longer have child support payments lol I am hoping my buddies brother will split a crate with me once I find out where to buy one.

P.S. thanks for all the support

Phew..thanks for the riddle solving, worst part is I just watched X-men last night and still did not get that riddle LOL, I am goin to ck, it out right now, then right after shoot an email off to "lellier&Bellot" along with the batch code number from the box of crappy ammo and see what they say. I'll keep ya posted.

$145 for 1120 rounds of corrosive, or $160 for non-corrosive..what kind of shipping charges should I expect?? I assume since its shipped as a dangerous good, post canada does not do the shipping. Also, it says the non-corrosive is very dirty stuff, so i guess either way a good cleaning is needed after shooting so the corrosive would be the one to get ??

not sure about shipping cost. but yeah, go with the corrosive and just clean it up when your done

HB, I have a sugguestion for you. Why not just start handloading your own noncorrosive ammo? It's easy. I would send you some handloads to you if we lived in the same area and the post office accepted live ammo :). But if you have friends living down acroos the border, ask them to order some brasses for you from MIDWAYUSA.COM. Then you can just drive down to pick them up. Bullets are easy to find in Canada. You can order Lee reloading kit for your SKS from SIRMAILORDER.COM to set yourself up. I think I'll see the pix of your harvested deer in Hunting section on this board soon. :D

That's about the going rate here for that ammo.

You might want to check out the gunshow, they usually have some 7.62X39 for sale by the box.
