Just curious what the following configuration is worth.

Russian SKS.
Tapco intrafuse 6 position stock with bottom rail.
ATI foregrip.
SKS picatinny scope mount (replaces receiver) and
NC-STAR 4x30 Compact scope.
Less than 50 rounds downrange.

To me,if it's just a regular refurb. I'd put the value of everything at $150 to 175. That's if the original parts are included.

That's a pretty cheap offer, and unrealistic. Seriously. I've got about $450 into my SKS, Close to what buddy has. And if someone made me the $150-$175 offer for all of it, original parts included, I would be insulted. And I realize that buying anything used that uses corrosive ammo sight unseen is a gamble. But that is seriously lowball. No more than $300 would be reasonable IMO, you will take a hit on all the parts, probably get back 60%.

And you can buy the kit from MoreGuns Supply for what, $289? Refurb SKS in a black Tapco, with one plastic mag.Makes it tough to get a reasonable price figured.

Brand new sks 200.00 matching #;s never fired.
2 detach mags 90.00
4x scope with
rings,+ mount 85.00
free hard case
free t shirt___________
375.00 ball park

1200 rounds of ammo for around 200 bucks.. priceless:runaway:

Not really. To me the plastic junk is useless on a SKS,hence the negative value.

You should be able to get around $325-$350 at least for that set-up you're rocking.

A lot of the value is going to come from the condition of the rifle itself with things like a nice shiny barrel, strong rifling, no rust in gas chamber, #'s matching, and of course original equipment included

Best advice: search in the EE with the "WTS" prefix for "sks" and spend 10 minutes going through previous postings - it'll give you a good idea.

Like other people have said, keep an eye on EE and see what going prices are. It will sell for a fair price. There is always new people looking for a complete SKS package. Do not be discouraged by what some "Hector the Collector's" are saying. The SKS to them has to be pure, like a virgin that they can only fantasise about......................

Actually i think all the plastic stuff you put on a nice russian refurb lessen the price... If you want to bubba one do it on a chinese... JP.

Why do people spend money making their SKS something it will never be? put that money into a CZ858! Better rifle

I do not think there is any confusion. There is a lot of people out there that realize that the 858 is a overpriced rifle for what you get. The people that I know have sold them after a short period of time, the AK feeling wore off.

I like my 858, everyone is intitled to their opinion. But buy a SKS for $250 buy a Tapco stock and a 5/30 duckbill magazine and you are at the price of a 858. to each their own.

You have your infomation wrong SKS package as you mentioned $289.00. The last time I looked 858's $695.00.

Agreed. I put my package together for about 350. Muzzle brake, Tapco fusion stock, bayonet lug bipod, 3 20 rd tapco mags. If you look hard you can find good deals on the EE.

I was excited to "bubba" my rifle. Let me shed some light on as to why some of us do it to the SKS:

1 - It looks badass. I'm not a fan of wood stocks. I wanted something that looked sleeker and more modern without dishing out for a more expensive, modern rifle.

2 - It makes it more comfortable to hold and operate. I'm 6'5" and the stock is waaaaay to short for me. I also feel more comfortable with a pistol grip. So Tapco got my business.

It's not like I think putting on a bunch of cosmetic changes is going to make my rifle more powerful or more accurate. I did it purely for aesthetics and comfort, and, naturally what appeals to me visually might really bother someone else. But it's my rifle and I love it, especially the price I paid for something that looks, to me, really slick.

On a separate note, I believe the term should be "sporterized", not "bubba'd". Bubba implies that you made mods and failed hard at it. It's hard to fail at installing a premade stock with integral rails.

Buba has feelings too you know!

And I can understand the Milsurp Collector mentality......if we were talking about something other than SKS. I mean come on. If it's a minty non refurb 1949, maybe I'd think hard about doing anything to it. But as for the rest let's go over it again
1. 50 year old simple, cheap rifle
2. Attractive because of price of a rifle and price of CORROSIVE AMMO \
3.Not exactly a collector's piece, unless it's a '49, or early Sino-Soviet effort
4. The majority in existence are Chinese manufactured, or if Russian are refurbed 95% of the time.
5 Most of the "bubba" mods done are drop in or bolt on, non permanent. Can be restored to former "glory" in very little time.
6.And this is my opinion on SKS vs. 858.My opinion has changed with time. Having fired both fairly extensively, for my money i went SKS, because, with a 5 rd. mag limit, that long ass mag is annoying (858).I can buy a CHROME BORE sks for $200, and have it "pimped out" for a total of $450, including original purchase price.muzzle brake, Williams aperture rear sight, fire front sight, recoil buffer, Tapco tupperware stock(Adjustable LOP was the big sell for me too.)

If I screw up the SKS rifle by shoddy maintenance, corrosion, whatever, I can buy yet another SKS for $200 or less, and add all my aftermarket parts to it from the first one. And I can do this (2 rifles,1 aftermarket package) for less than the price of ONE non chrome lined 858.Without any aftermarket goodies. An they don't shoot any better than an SKS. If we had no 5 rd. limit, my choice may be different because of the magazine.Maybe.

Don't get me wrong, I think the 858 is a great rifle. But the SKS is every bit as good for less.A better value.
