I just purchased an SKS from Marstar but haven't fired it yet. I am looking to aquire one more 7.62X39 shooter and wonder which is a better rifle, the SKS or the CZ 858. Any thoughts.

I have yet to see any sks shoot half as well as any 858. The 858 is a far superior design built with superior materials and craftsmanship.

The CZ is a better rifle at 3 to 4 times the cost of an SKS. I've had both but chose to sell off the CZ858 after the novelty wore off, as the SKS gives me the same buzz feeling in a gravel pit. I still have a few very nice collector SKS rifles and one or two shooters for sh*ts n giggles. The cash i sold the 858 for supplied me with another stack of ammunition before the price went up on surplus ammunition.

I don't have an SKS (yet :D ) but I got the CZ-858. I love it! It is quite accurate and a blast to shoot. Plus its hard to look this cool with an SKS! :D

you pretty much have to buy a celebratory C19 CZ858. That and it is an amazingly handy and light weight (yet soft shooting) accurate hunting/plinking rifle.

Although the Czechs disguise the fact by making it look like its made out of old soup cans, sawdust and glue.

Either rifle is fine.

858 is a better and lighter design. The SKS is a good gun, but not in the same league. I have never seen an SKS that will shoot as well as an 858.

Two mags coupled together is even faster, and cleaner. That reach around for the bolt is a pain. Going to get that changed to the left side.

858 NO QUESTION. SKS mags are pure sh!t with the fvcking extra long tab that does not fit in any mag pouch. My Norc SKS was the biggest pos I have ever owned.

I'm surprised you had trouble with a norc. I have three that have fired thousands of rounds without a hiccup, with similar accuracy to my cz's and vz's. I just use the mags as a fixed mag, mind you, using stripper clips is nice and easy. Come to think of it, I do the same with my czech stuff.

I think some people still confuse Chinese Military SKS's with Norinco commercial SKS's. Not even the same rifle, they just look similar. Remember, the PLA SKS's are in the same reliability league as any Russian rifle, factory 26 is ex-Tula tooling set up with the help of Soviet engineers. Mil = quality Commercial = junk. As for the 858 vs. SKS thats a matter of opinion really. I own and enjoy both. As a run and gun (assault, for lack of a better term) the 858 trumps the SKS. As a cheap fun plinker the SKS has value and reliability in hoards. Depends what you want. Trying to run an SKS thru a course and keep pace with an 858 is like bringing your truck to the racetrack. Could be done but not as easily. The solution is simple here: Buy both. The SKS is only 200 bucks so why not give it a try? Both rifles can be sold without taking a huge loss so buy them and have fun
